While it is important to keep some sort of visual id tag on your pet for identification purposes, tags can be lost, or scratched to the point of being unreadable. A microchip is the way to go! Microchips are about the size of a grain of rice and are implanted just under the skin inbetween the animal's shoulder blades. A scanner is used to search for a chip, and when found, will display the chip number and the provider's phone number. Veterinarians charge between $50 and $60 for these chips, but NWA Save our Strays can microchip your pet today for only $15.00! Email woofitup1@cox.net today to set up an appointment. News
In February 2007, the city of Bentonville closed its animal shelter and merged with the city of Rogers. Prior to the merger, we worked closely with the Bentonville shelter by bringing dogs from the shelter to our Saturday adoption days. In 2006, over 500 were picked up and taken to the Bentonville shelter. Largely due to the efforts of Save our Strays, only 25 dogs were euthanized (due to severe injuries and severe aggressiveess) making the euthanization rate less than 5%. The average percentage of dogs killed in area shelters is 51%.
We are currently trying to continue our cause with the city of Rogers who is working with us to the best of their ability.
Our ULTIMATE goal is to build our own animal rescue within the city of Bentonville and have it privately funded. We are currently working to to find corporate and individual sponsors.
Who We Are
We are a local non-profit organization ran by volunteers who LOVE animals! Our goal is to provide the best permanent homes possible for the abused, abandoned, and lost dogs in our care.
Adopting a friend
We rescue and find loving foster homes to take care of our furry friends until an ideal permanent home can be found. We have all our pets spayed and/or neutered, microchipped, and make sure that all shots, including rabies, are up to date. Our adoption fee is only $70.00 for dogs/puppies and $60.00 for cats/kittens to help recover some of the fees for the above procedures. We fund all medical procedures for the animals in our care, education to the public, and other costs only through donations from the public. The adoption fee does not cover all the costs of the above and Save our Strays absorbs the remaining balance.
