Who We Are

The Wynne Friends of Animals is a local non-profit organization who helps unwanted, homeless, & stray dogs & cats (and sometimes bunnies!) in our area find forever homes. We also help aid in spaying/neutering. We operate solely on volunteers and the generosity of the public. We are fully devoted to finding these animals new loving homes and hope that petfinder.com will help aid us in this journey. "

Prior to being placed in a foster home or and adopted home, each animal is spayed/neutered. Shots are brought up to date and all dogs of age are tested for heartworms. All dogs recieve a microchip. Most with heartworms ARE treated. There is an adoption donation which helps offset the veterinary costs. If you are interested in any of the animals listed. please e-mail our shelter directors at wynnefoa@yahoo.com or call 870-238-WOOF (9663).

How you can Help

#1 way to help:

ADOPT AN ANIMAL WHO NEEDS YOU! (Or can you foster? This means keeping a dog or cat indoors in your home and intergrating it into your family life until we find it a forever home. It means making plans to accomodate this animal just as you would your own pet and a commitment to training and reinforcing good behavior!)

#2 way to help:

Please take care of your OWN ANIMALS. Spay and neuter - this is better for their health, and it is the responsible thing to do. This world does not need any more puppies or kittens. There are so many homeless ones right now. Microchip your pets, and make sure that they have a collar with tags with your details on them at all times. Have a back up plan for emergencies. Know what you will do with your animals should you be unable to care for them. Make allowances in your will for their care. Help take the burden off our shelter, one animal at a time. Be responsible and be PROUD of it!

#3 ways to help

If you cannot adopt there are many other ways you can help support us as we save our dogs - one by one! No matter who you are, or what your resources are we know there is something you have that we need.

We are always in need of donations! This is our #1 struggle. If you do not have money to donate, perhaps you can donate your time.

We need help soliciting donations, organizing and running fundraisers, and your time can be invaluable if you are able to come out and spend some time with our animals! Can you walk a dog? Leash training is an essential part of what we do and can hugely increase a dogs chance of getting adopted.

Perhaps you've seen a dog you love on our petfinder pages but you cannot adopt. Make a commitment to THAT dog, come out and walk them, play with them, teach them to play fetch and obey commands. Help them become the perfect dog for their forever home and make their time in the shelter easier. Can you sit with animals as they recover from spays and neuters once or twice a month? Bathe some stinky puppies, brush some of our long haired dogs? We are open on weekends, so just because you work mon-friday doesn't mean you can't help!

Or maybe you're really brave and are able to come in the mornings or afternoons and help us clean up all the mess that almost 100 dogs make!!! (We love these folks). Are you a homehandyman? We have lots of maintenance projects around the shelter we could sure use your help with. Sometimes we need drivers to transport dogs to meet transports at various distances, or to the airport! Do you have your own business? Could you put a poster with a featured pet up, advertise our fundraisers or keep a change jar for your customers to donate?

We are also in need of items: Surgery/Medical equipment, Grooming equipment, Treats, Toys, Rawhides, Collars, Leashes and we LOVE harnesses! We always use newspapers so save them up and bring them to us! Gently used or new crates, especially larger ones. Extra tall baby gates, and exercise pens. Sturdy no-kink Hoses, Stainless steel Buckets, Kitty Litter (We have a lot of cats and are using a LOT of this these days), Food to ease the burden on our wonderful foster families, Gently used or new Towels, small blankets and pet beds, BLEACH, Washing powder, Paper Towels, hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial soap. Dishwashing liquid or tablets, Magic Erasers, Office Equipment (we could really use a good new computer and printer/fax machine). If your pet has recently passed and you are not ready for a new one, do you have left over heartworm prevention, frontline or other medicines and items which are still good? These things could really help our dogs!! This list is nowhere near complete. Chances are if you have an item you think we could put to use, we probably can. Call and ask!

Some great kids in our community have been doing great things with their birthday. These amazing children have set a great example - instead of asking for presents for themselves they have asked for donations and gifts for the shelter. If you are having a party (grown ups too!) maybe this is something you could consider? Spending time with these dogs and cats is THERAPY for us!!! We know you'll find it is too. You'll feel great, and be a hero to your local animals in need. Please contact us and tell us you'd like to help!

We love these beds and so do our dogs! These will help them feel more comfortable in their kennels, and make a shelter feel more like 'home'. If you would like to donate a bed to a specific dog, please email us and let us know which dog or dogs you would like to recieve these beds in their kennels.
