Central Arkansas Rescue Effort (CARE) for Animals, Inc. has assisted in the rescue of 3,274 animals (as of November 9, 2013), and fully funded or subsidized spay/neuter procedures for approximately 10,000 pets. We sponsor spay/neuter clinics for low-income families each month. Visit our website for details.
Who We Are
Our purpose is to conduct animal rescue by providing medical care and placing animals facing impending euthanasia into foster and permanent homes; to increase awareness for the need to spay/neuter all pets; to establish Arkansas's first mobile spay/neuter clinic; and to work with and advise animal shelters in central Arkansas on animal welfare issues.
December 8, 2011 -- CARE is honored to have been selected by the Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) as a rescue resource for Paws in Prison, a very special program that places shelter dogs with ADC inmates for approximately eight weeks of basic training and socialization in preparation for placement with their forever families. For more information, see the ADC's Paws in Prison web page. Paws in Prison will allow CARE not only to increase rescue numbers dramatically, but will improve the chances for adoption for many animals who just need a little help. The impact of similar programs throughout the United States has been universally positive. Inmates learn training skills that support successful rehabilitation and reentry into society, morale of both inmates and staff is greatly enhanced in participating facilities, and animals who may have been left to languish or be euthanized in shelters due to a lack of socialization or training will have a second chance at life. Paws in Prison program is supported entirely by private donations!
Adopting a Friend
You may submit the Adoption Online Application Form; please specify, by name, the pet that is the subject of your application. Our adoption fee is $150 for dogs, except that the fee for a dog graduated from the Paws in Prison program is $250. Each of our adoptable dogs is tested for heartworms, given their shots, spayed or neutered, and microchipped.
Volunteering and Donations
We are not a shelter and reply upon volunteer foster families to provide our adoptable pets with homes and socialization. Foster homes are a vital part of CARE's adoption effort. Without their support, we cannot add new adoptable pets to our program. Please consider volunteering to foster an adoptable cat or dog! If you are interested, please submit the Foster Online Application Form. Fostering, and knowing that you saved a dog or cat from certain death, is a rewarding experience and an act of generosity. Too many animals are euthanized each day -- we want to give those adoptable pets a chance.
We also welcome volunteers to show animals at our CARE headquarters at 5516 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, Arkansas, 72207, each Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 pm. In addition, we offer numerous other volunteer opportunities -- such as, helping at the monthly spay/neuter clinics, assisting in our gift shop (closed Sunday only), participating with our fundraising events -- so, please, contact us if you are interested. or submit the Volunteer Application located on our website.
Donations are ALWAYS welcome! Visit our Donate Online page to see payment options for cash gifts -- it's easy, it's deductible, and it's necessary for CARE to continue!
