Who We Are
Big Paws Great Dane Rescue of Decatur, formerly Wilson Dane Rescue, is a home based rescue for dogs in need located in north Alabama. We are a not for profit organization so all of our donations and adoption fees go right back into helping other dogs. We do not receive any type of financial assistance so all cost come directly out of our pocket. Any donations would be gladly accepted. We need joint supplement, food, shavings, dog houses, collars, leashes, wormer, flea prevention and help with vet bills is always nice. If you know of any danes in need, let us know. We help as many dogs as we can or locate help if we are full.
We are still looking for qualified foster homes. Let us know if you are interested!
Adopting a friend
If you think you would like to adopt one of our babies, just e-mail us for more information. We will send you an adoption application. Once your application has been approved, we will set up a time for you to visit with the dog you are interested in. If all goes well then we will go over the adoption contract and the rules and requirements of our organization. Once all of the paperwork has been handled then you can take your new best friend home. All of our dogs are fully vetted upon adoption.
ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:
Completing the adoption application is a prerequisite to adopting a Great Dane through Big Paws Great Dane Rescue. We DO allow for out-of-state adoptions. New Parents are responsible for transportation.
The person submitting the application, MUST be the person who is actually adopting the dog.
The applicant must be 21 yrs or older.
The applicant must be willing to undergo reference checks and home visit.
All current pets must be spayed/neutered and up to date on shots. NO BREEDING!
ALL pets must reside INSIDE your home.
A fence yard is required for MOST adoptions, however this is not always a requirement.
It depends on the dogs needs. BUT, MOST likely you will need a fenced yard.
Prefer applicant to own home, due to leasing/renting complications.
Must have current or previous pet ownership, in order to verify vet history and pet ownership.

This is NOT a first-come, first-served process. All of the Great Danes that come into our care have
already been shifted around or dumped at a shelter, we want to find the best forever home possible for them and the application is one way we do this.
All applicants are screened and approved on the needs of our Danes. We place them in the “Best” home, based on THEIR needs and personality. Please note, you will be contacted if you meet the specific needs of the Dane and are the best fit for their personality.
Our adoption fee is an "attempt" to recover vet fees, grooming and basic care cost. All Danes are up to date on shots, spayed/neutered and all other medical issues treated, based on vet recommendation. (dental work, hip surgery, eye surgery, etc...)
