About Us

News

We now have two volunteer run adoption events each month to help find homes for our wonderful animals!

1st Saturday of each month:  The Huntsville Animal Services Pet Rally!  This is a monthly event where volunteers gather to showcase animals that are currently not in the public eye because of the lack of space in the adoption room.  Crates and kennels are set up in the lobby and/or outdoors to give the public an opportunity to visit with the animals and hopefully adopt.

3rd Saturday of each month:  Petco Adoption Event!  Volunteers and foster homes gather to take adoptable dogs to the Huntsville Petco at 6140 University Dr.  Dogs are available to to play, walk and spend time with potential adopters.  Some can even go home with you the same day!

We have also partnered with the Huntsville Petco to house cats and kittens in store!  If you are in the market for a cat or kitten, feel free to stop by the store and see what is available for adoption.  Don't see what you are looking for? Come on by the shelter and you are bound to fall in love!

Adopting A Friend

Our friendly shelter staff is available 6 days a week to help you with your pet adoption needs.  We kindly ask that you plan to have your adoption completed 30 minutes prior to closing as our clerks need that time to close out paperwork for the day.

Adoption fees range in price from $83-$118, depending on what pet license option you choose (if you live in the City of Huntsville).  There are also optional services available such as heart worm testing and microchipping for a very nominal additional charge.  Should you have a question regarding the adoption fees on a particular animal, please call or come by the shelter with the animal ID# for the one you are inquiring about and someone would be glad to assist you.

Huntsville Animal Services does allow potential adopters to bring their pets for a meet and greet in order to properly introduce them to the animal you are looking to adopt.  We have two petting rooms and three outdoor play yards.  We kindly ask that you keep all pets on a leash at all times and it is also a very good idea to make sure your pets are up to date on vaccinations before coming to the shelter (especially Bordatella, aka "kennel cough").  Please ask a Huntsville Animal Services associate for assistance when you arrive.

Who We Are

Huntsville Animal Services is a municipal ran entity of the city of Huntsville, AL.  We accept strays and owner surrendered pets from citizens, not only in Huntsville, but rural Madison County as well.  As you might imagine, this is a HUGE load on us as we work to combat the problem with unwanted pet overpopulation.  Currently, we take in over 8,000 dogs, cats, rabbits and more each and every year.  Shelter staff and volunteers work tirelessly on and off the clock to save as many of these animals as possible but we can not do it alone.  We need your help!  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE spay/neuter your pets and choose adoption when you look to add to your furry family!

Come Visit Us

We invite you to come to Huntsville Animal Services and have a look around.  While many people write us off as just a "dog pound", we think you will be pleasantly surprised with our facility and caring staff.  Come see us!
