Adopting a friend
BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE ADOPTION PROCESS, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU CAREFULLY READ AND UNDERSTAND THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:
1) You will be required to complete a visitor registration form stating your interest in adopting an animal.
2) You will be escorted to the adoption area by a BJC staff member.
3) If you find an animal you wish to adopt, you will be required to complete a Foster Care/Adoption Application form. You will then be interviewed by a BJC staff member and a decision will be made to accept or reject your application. A ten dollar ( $10.00 ) non-refundable application fee is required prior to filling out the application.
4) If your application is accepted, you will be required to sign a Foster Care/Adoption Contract with BJC and pay an eighty dollar( $80.00 ) adoption fee. You will receive a certificate for up to $80 off the cost of the spay or neuter surgery at any participating veterinarian.
5) You will then be required to take the animal to a licensed veterinarian of your choice within three working days of signing the contract to have the animal thoroughly examined and have a rabies vaccination administered. At this time you must schedule to have the animal spayed or neutered with your veterinarian. The animal must be spayed or neutered within ten days of signing the Foster Care/ Adoption Contract..
6) Once the animal has been vaccinated for rabies and has been spayed or neutered and this has been verified by the attending veterinarian, your status will change from Foster Care Provider to Adopter of the animal.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
a) If the veterinarian determines that the animal's health does not make it suitable for adoption, you may return the animal to BJC for exchange or for a refund of the deposit and adoption fee. You must provide documentation from the attending veterinarian as to why the animal is not suitable for adoption.
c) BJC is not responsible for any veterinary costs which you incur as a part of this adoption process.
