![]() ![]() Aaron Wishes You a Fun-Filled 4th of July!Aaron would like nothing better than to win his independence from life at the shelter. He is a lovely boxer/lab mix with nice manners, a quiet demeanor, and a strong willingness to please. Why he has been repeatedly overlooked by adopters is a true mystery, unless it's because of the "BBD" syndrome. Big, Black Dogs are frequently the last to be adopted from shelters. Help strike a blow against BBD today. Adopt Aaron, a big, black, beautiful boy who just wants to love you for life! |

Efforts are under way to offer a new spay/neuter license plate in Alabama. From November 1, 2007, through October 31, 2008, you can go to your local county car license tag office and pay a $50 "Commitment to Purchase" deposit.* You can do this at any time during the year regardless of when your tag is due. At least 1,000 people must commit to purchasing the tag in order for the tag to be produced. More info is available here. Update: According to recent press coverage, only about 300 people have signed up for the Spay/Neuter tag in Alabama. Please go to your local courthouse today if you want to help make this tag a reality! *$41.25 of the $50 tag fee will go into a fund to offer low cost spay or neuter surgeries to low-income households. |
| Find low cost spay and neuter surgeries in your area. Contact 1-866-9-SPAY AL. For additional information visit the Alabama Humane Federation Web site. Alabama's first low-cost spay/neuter clinic is in Montgomery, AL. Find out more. |

Foster Homes Urgently Needed! If you are interested in helping the shelter, fostering is one way to make a huge impact. Fostering dogs or puppies for 2-4 weeks can literally save lives. We urgently need people to care for puppies and dogs until they can go into adoption. Fostering also offers the foster parents some advantages. It can be a great way to enjoy a dog or puppy without having to make a long-term commitment. Or if you have a dog who would like some playtime companions, but you don't want to take on another dog permanently, fostering can be ideal. It's also a great way to teach children about the responsibility of pet ownership. If you are interested in fostering for the Lee County Humane Society, please e-mail becky@leecountyhumane.org. |
