Our Mission Statement and Who We Are

"The Greater Birmingham Humane Society is dedicated to promoting respect for life through education and prevention of cruelty to animals and people."

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) strives to place our adoptable animals into responsible and loving homes through our Adoptions Program. We are also busy educating the public both in the schools and through our daily interactions with the public. The GBHS has an Education Program where we are able to go into the schools and help encourage the youth of our community to care for all living things. Our Volunteer program allows caring and dedicated volunteers to help care for the animals and find them loving homes. The GBHS also has a full-time Animal Cruelty Investigator who works with the local law enforcement agencies to help stop the cruelty to animals in our city and county. Adopting a friend

• $100.00 for any kitten or puppy under 6 months
• $75.00 for any cat or dog over 6 months

The adoption fees for any rabbit at GBHS are as follows:

• $25.00 for any rabbit
• Special pricing for pairs

The adoption fee for other pets at the GBHS are as follows:

• Ferrets: $50.00
• Guinea Pigs: $10 each or 2 for $15.00
• Hamsters: $10 each or 2 for $15.00 (includes a carrier)

The adoption fees include:

• HomeAgain Microchip, Tag, & Registration
• Bath
• Flea and Tick Preventative
• Deworming Treatment
• Current Vaccinations
• Rabies Vaccination - for pets over 3 months
• Feline Leukemia/Feline AIDS Combo Test
• Heatworm Test - for dogs 6 months and older
• Heartworm Preventative - for dogs 6 months and older
• Additional Medical Care as needed
• Spay/Neuter surgery
• Basic Care and Hygiene

Directions to shelter (300 Snow Drive): From south of Birmingham - I-65 North to Lakeshore Exit. Left onto Lakeshore Parkway (1 1/2 miles) and right on West Oxmoor Road. Turn right onto Snow Drive at the second traffic light. Follow Snow Drive around past the US Postal Office. You will see signs for GBHS at the bottom of our driveway (which is right before the second right-hand curve on Snow Drive). Follow the drive up to the building. **Snow Drive is a horse-shoe which will take you back to West Oxmoor if you go too far. ** From north of Birmingham - I-65 South to West Oxmoor Exit. Right onto West Oxmoor Road. Turn left onto Snow Drive at the traffic light after Jack's Corporate Office and UPS. Follow Snow Drive around past the US Postal Office. You will see signs for GBHS at the bottom of our driveway (which is right before the second right-hand curve on Snow Drive). Follow the drive up to the building. **Snow Drive is a horse-shoe which will take you back to West Oxmoor if you go too far. ** For more information please call us at 205-942-1211. We are open Monday - Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm and on Sunday from 12:00 pm to 4:30 pm for adoptions and animal surrendering. Animal visitation ends at 4:00 to allow ample time for the adoption process.
