January is seniors adopting seniors month at GHHS! Any person over 50 years old is eligible to adopt a furry friend aged 7 years or older for a reduced adoption fee of $70. To meet our eligible pets, please come by the shelter today!
We are so pleased to announce the heater we were able to install on the puppy patio due to many generous donations made to the shelter! A big thanks to all who helped us.
2011 was a great year for GHHS with nearly 800 pets finding their perfect homes! We are off to a good start in 2012 and looking to exceed our goals. To help us in our mission, please consider adopting one of our wonderful shelter pets, donating, volunteering, or fostering a pet in need!

For someone to adopt from the GHHS, they must meet certain qualifications and follow the guidelines listed below:
Adoption fee for dogs and cats:
4 months and under $150
Over 4 months $125
All adoptable animals have been fully vaccinated, spayed or neutured, and microchipped.
The Greater Huntsville Humane Society (GHHS) is dedicated to furthering the humane care and treatment of animals and providing adoption services for the unwanted and homeless.
The Greater Huntsville Humane Society (GHHS), established more than 40 years ago is a 501(c)3, No-Kill Shelter. Operationally GHHS is runned by many Volunteers, Staff, Executive and Development Directors and a governing body of Board of Directors still dedicated to the mission and goals set over 40 years ago. GHHS is financially supported by private generous donors, the Huntsville community, grants and local and national corporate sponsorships.
The Greater Huntsville Humane Society’s main goal is to help find homes for at least a thousand pets or more each year and remain committed to furthering the humane treatment, education and respect for animals.
We are located at 2812 Johnson Road, and are open to the public Tuesday - Saturday from 10:00 am until 4:30 pm. Adoptions end at 4:00 pm. Closed Sunday and Monday.
The GHHS thrift shop is located behind the shelter and is open 9:30 am until 4:30 pm, Monday - Saturday. All profits go towards our shelter pets!
How can you help?
Volunteer, adopt, donate, foster, shop at our thrift shop and spread the word about rescuing a shelter pet!
All donations to the shelter and thift store are tax deductable.
To volunteer, contact our development director, Lina Stewart, at lina2812@knology.net or come by! You must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer, and you must be 18 or older to work hands-on with the shelter dogs. We are always needing enthusiastic volunteers to make what we do possible!
