We are a group whose members have been in rescue for anywhere from a year to many years. We are dedicated to saving the lives of pets that would otherwise die in shelters or be surrendered to shelters. Once those lives are safe and in our homes (we do NOT have a shelter), they are spayed or neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations, heart worm tested - treated if positive, given dentals cleanings if needed and started on flea, tick & heart worm prevention. We also try to work on crate training and house training, although we do not guarantee that any of our dogs are perfectly housetrained. You will notice that because of their small size, our dogs are not suitable for homes with small children. While we realize that not everyone agrees with us on this issue, we do feel strongly about it and are only looking out for the welfare of the dogs who have nobody but us to do so. We do appreciate your understanding. If you would like to read our reasons for this position, you can do so on our website.
Adopting a Friend
Because we do not have a shelter and all our dogs are housed in our personal homes, we do not arrange meetings until we have an application. The application does not obligate you in any way, but it does give the foster parent a general idea whether the dog you are interested in would be a good match for your home. We are always willing to do "meet and greets" once you have completed this initial phase of our adoption process and talked to the appropriate foster parent. When an application for a dog is received, it is forwarded to that dog's foster parent for processing. The approval process includes a vet reference check. At this point, the foster parent will generally contact the applicant by phone to discuss the dog. We may also do personal reference checks, and we will do a home visit. We require that all other pets in the home be spayed or neutered, and if you rent or lease, you must provide proof that you are allowed to have pets (copy of lease) and that any applicable pet deposit has been paid (receipt or letter from landlord).
Our Wish List
Since our rescue group is operated strictly on a volunteer basis and funded only by the adoption donations we collect, the "incidentals" are paid for straight out of the pockets of our foster parents. Some of the items we go through quite quickly are:
leashes and adjustable collars for small dogs
flea and tick prevention (Frontline, Advantage, Advantix)
heartworm prevention (Heartgard, Sentinal, Iverheart, Ivermectin)
towels and blankets
treats and toys
Of course, we always welcome monetary donations or gift cards.
Foster Homes Always Needed. . .
We are bursting at the seams with foster dogs, and calls and emails come in every day from someone with a dog that is shelter bound or already in a shelter and facing death. Therefore, we are always looking for foster homes. If you have the space in your home and heart to save a small dog from death, email us. Yes, it is hard to let them go after you have loved them for the time they are with you, but it makes room for another to live. The joy and happiness you get when you see one of your foster babies thriving in its new home is indescribable. We are very thorough in checking out our adoptive homes, so we are as certain as possible that our rescued companions go to only the best possible homes for them. That makes it a bit easier to sleep when they "leave" us. Although, they never really leave...a little piece of your heart goes with them and a little tiny part of them stays with us forever. We encourage our adoptive parents to stay in touch and become part of our "family". Let us know if you would like to be a part of this program. You can find a FOSTERING APPLICATION on our website.
If fostering is not for you...perhaps you would like to sponsor a dog (donate the shelter fee or help cover his or her vet bills or help buy the food, flea and tick prevention or heartworm prevention they get each month). Any help is greatly needed and appreciated even more.
