Who We Are

The DeKalb County Animal Adoption Center is dedicated to improving the lives of animals in the DeKalb County area and finding permanent and loving adoptive homes for those animals in our care. We wish to provide education for the community about pet over-population and to emphasize the importance of spaying and neutering pets.

Adopting a friend

Please take a few moments to read about our adoption policies and the steps of the process.  Adopting a pet is more involved than most expect and  immediate access to the pet of your choice is not allowed.  First, every potential adpoter must fill out an adoption application, no exceptions.  This application will ask the basic information about the household, type of pet interested in, and will also include a veterinary reference.  It is of utmost importance that this application be filled out and reviewed by our staff in order to ensure that each pet adopted from the DeKalb County Animal Adoption Center will enjoy a home that is best suited for them and their adopter, this will require a 24 hour waiting period.  Once the paperwork has been approved you will be asked to sign an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee that will cover the cost of the spay/neuter opertation, deworming, heartworm testing in dogs over the age of 6 months, Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus testing, rabies vaccination, first vaccinations for puppies and dogs, microchipping that comes with 30 day pet insurance, and basic grooming.  PLEASE NOTE:  As a general rule, we can not hold animals for anyone.  The most qualified applicant will receive the pet.  In the case of multiple applicants for the same animal, DCAAC reserves the right to select the most qualified applicant.  It is not our intention for this process to be frustrating, however, we want to take every step we can to ensure the animals welfare.
