Availability Inquiries: If the dog is still posted then he/she is available. We may have already accepted applications but have not chosen one yet. Please send yours if you'd like to be considered. A "pending" status means that the pet is spoken for, but the adoption has yet to be finalized. This pet may become available again if the adoption is not completed within a reasonable amount of time.
Location: We do not have a physical location where all of our dogs are housed nor do we have "business hours". We are made up of a network of private foster homes and sometimes use boarding. Once we have received your application, we can provide you with details and arrange a "meet and greet" when possible. We require an application before any meetings will be
arranged.
Adoption "Fees": Our adoption donations typically range between $75-150 and reflect ~60% of our medical investment in each pet. This includes, at a bare MINIMUM, spay/neuter, vaccinations, worming, vet check, and heartworm testing. Because we are a "special needs" organization, dogs that require extensive or expensive medical treatments may have much higher adoption donations.
We are often asked, "Why would you charge "so much" for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support ALL rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-200 in (discounted) vet care, and many people will want to adopt it. An older one with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation; yet we can only ask a minimal adoption donation, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt it. Donations from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others. Please feel free to ask your vet what the cost of an office visit, heartworm test, and age appropriate vaccinations along with a spay or neuter would cost. I think you'll be surprised. Most of our dogs have a sad story to tell, and some have suffered through years of neglect or abuse. We hope that you too are willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by supporting them through adoption donations. Without these funds, our rescue efforts would not be possible.
Cats and Dogs: If we don't specifically mention cats in the bio then we don't
know exactly how a particular dog will react to cats. If we suspect there will be aggression then we will say no to cats. However, every dog needs to be introduced correctly to a house with cats in it. Each dog and each cat will have
different chemistry together so there is no way to tell how they will act until the dog is in the home. Puppies less than one year of age can always go to a home with cats, but they too need to learn. With a little effort, dogs and cats can live together...but don't forget that dogs will be dogs so sometimes you will need to step in.
Out-of-state Adoptions: We will consider adopting to all states, but transport options are limited to some areas. Adopters are responsible for all additional fees associated with transporting a pet out-of-state.
Who We Are
Lauren's Zoo is an all species/breed caregiver to local homeless pets that are in need. We have a wonderful success rate with "special needs" animals (deaf, blind, amputee, etc). In the last 15 years, We have placed hundreds of animals all over the nation; Our mission in life is to love, care, and PLACE animals who haven't been given a chance.
Because we are a grassroots organization. We rely on help from the public and money from our own pockets. Because of the nature of our rescued animals, many need expensive veterinary care to help in their journey to find a forever home.

Adopting a Friend
The first step in our adoption process is the completion of our adoption application. An auto-response containing our application can be received by e-mailing LaurensZoo.application@yahoo.com . Once approved, adoptions can generally be finalized within a week. Out-of-state adoptions aren't out-of-the-question to find a suitable home for our special babies.
Fostering a Friend
Because we do not have a physical location or "shelter", we rely on individual foster families to provide a safe place for our rescued pets to stay until a forever family can be found. We provide everything you need when you foster a dog for us (crate, collar/leash, monthly heartworm and flea medications, even food if you need us to). Send your foster inquiries or questions to LaurensZoo@yahoo.com . Fostering is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have, and there is nothing like the bittersweet moment your foster goes to their new, excited, forever home knowing that YOU made it possible.
Come Visit Us!
All of our fosters are residing in private foster homes. For this reason, a completed application is required in order to set up a "meet and greet" with any of our adoptable pets. Please send us an e-mail request for an application for the quickest response. LaurensZoo.application@yahoo.com
