Pet Rabbit Adoption and Rescue

News
Please DO NOT release your rabbit into the wild, your unsecured backyard or anywhere else. If you need to place your rabbit, please put an ad in the paper (never say it's free), post bulletins, call other rescue groups, or take the rabbit to the animal shelter. If you decide to take your rabbit to animal control, please fill out the profile sheet. Rabbits do get adopted from animal control.
So, how can you help?
One way you can help homeless domestic rabbit is to get the word out that there are rabbit rescue groups in Alaska. Tell people, "yes," rabbits can be spayed and neutered.
Another way you can help is to donate for the care of these bunnies. If you can't afford to donate funds, possibly you could foster a rabbit or two. I provide the food, hutch or dog run, and medical care. You provide the time and love.
Donate needed supplies: medium, large, and extra-large crock style bowls, fly strips/ribbon, straw, timothy or other grass hay, rabbit pellets, etc. Also, I do need help cleaning their pens and the yard and the indoor rabbit room needs cleaning.
If you are able and interested, I have provided a secure link to paypal for monetary donations. Although I am not-for-profit, at this time I do not have my non-profit, 501(c)3, status with the IRS. Any donations made to Pet Rabbit Adoptions will not be tax deductible.
Thank you
Who We Are
The Pet Rabbit Adoption didn't start out rescuing rabbits, but as an individual I decided quite by accident that I really liked rabbits. My first rabbit was free along with the cage, food, and instructions. The ad was had only been posted one hour earlier at the local vet clinic. I didn't know anything about rabbits, but started reading books from the library and information on the internet. Upon reading that rabbits like to have company, especially their own kind, I bought a baby rabbit. My third rabbit was Miz Lola. Lola had been given up because the couple was moving. While I was at the feed store, another family adopted her. They feared their son may be allergic and could they bring the bunny back. I jumped in (as usual) and said that I would take the rabbit if they couldn't keep it. After getting Miz Lola, I started going to the duck pond in Eagle River, AK, and saw how many rabbits were being abandoned there, and how some of these buns were sick or injured. I saw a need for rabbit rescue, in particular, rabbits that had been someone's pet but were dumped off to fend for themselves. Anyway, this is how my small rescue effort came to be. Did you know that domestic rabbits are the third most frequent animal, after dogs and cats, to be turned in to shelters?
Adopting a friend
Rabbits can be really nice pets if treated properly. And they can live a long time, the average being about 10 years, giving us more time to enjoy watching their antics and giving them love. Please adopt a rescued rabbit, but before you do, read the many books and pamphlets on rabbit care. Call a local rabbit rescuer or speak to someone you know that owns a rabbit to learn more about the joys and problems of rabbit ownership. I absolutely love my rabbits and enjoy watching them being rabbits. But a rabbit as a pet is not for everyone. Being well informed will help you make the right decision about rabbit ownership!
Come Visit Us!
I am located in East Anchorage and house the rabbits in hutches and cages and I have exercise pens for them. I have limited space and resources so I am not currently taking in any rabbits at this time except in extreme circumstances. You are welcome to call me to arrange a visit. Currently, I am not able to provide a tax-deduction receipt for any donations made to the rescue efforts. I am in need of volunteers to help clean up after the rabbits, especially in the late spring and early fall. I would like to have volunteers help transport rabbit to adoptions fairs and to provide them with time and attention.
