Who We Are
Pawsitive Match Rescue is a not-for-profit no kill dog rescue based in Calgary, Alberta. We are run independently and made up entirely of a dedicated group of volunteers. We work very hard to save dogs in life-threatening situations and give them a second chance at life. Our second focus is then on placing these amazing animals in the right family and creating a “pawsitive match,” as we call it.
Pawsitive Match saves dogs facing life-threatening circumstances in Canada, United States, Mexico, Turks and Caicos, and the Northwest Territories. The dogs in our program come from shelters that have no choice but to euthanize due to over-crowding or because they are shutting down. We work very closely with other local rescues and shelters to help save dogs on local reserves and occasional owner surrenders. In many cases we are the only hope these dogs have, as many shelters ask us for help when they are out of options. We do not discriminate by age, size, breed, location, temperament etc. We are here to help all dogs.
Pawsitive Match is also involved in an education program in Mexico, particularly in Cabo San Lucas and its surrounding areas. Our volunteers travel to Mexico and work exhaustively to promote spaying & neutering, as well as responsible pet ownership. We believe that abandoned and abused dogs deserve a second chance at a happy life, no matter where they come from. Pawsitive Match also volunteers with the Alberta Spay and Neuter Task Force, whereby hundreds of volunteers get together and organize a spay and neuter clinic on our local reserves.
The Pawsitive Match team has developed a system for our incoming rescue dogs; depending on the circumstances, we either place a dog at our private veterinarian-approved boarding facilities initially, or we place it directly into a private foster home.
The dogs coming into our rescue from outside of Canada are typically fostered in private foster homes or have spent at least a month in care at an animal shelter where their health and temperaments have been assessed by a veterinarian.
Pawsitive Match Rescue utilizes the services and expertise of local trainers and veterinarians. We also rely on our private foster homes to provide a detailed profile of their foster dogs’ personalities. The number of foster dogs that we allow per household is limited to assure that our adoptable dogs receive an adequate amount of love and attention to begin their rehabilitation and the process of trusting humans again.

Adopting a friend
Our application screening process is thorough, although we pride ourselves on processing applications quickly and efficiently. The process begins with the applicant filling out a questionnaire, followed by a telephone interview, reference and veterinarian checks and a visit to the applicant’s home. Our adoption fees range from $350 to $500 depending on vet care and transport costs. These funds are used towards saving more lives. Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, dewormed, receive flea and tick treatment, tested for parasites common to their region, and all other health issues are addressed. prior to adoption. Please note that our dogs are not adopted out on a “first come first served” basis - we look for the best possible “pawsitive match”.
