Alberta Sheltie Rescue is a small but active group dedicated to helping Shelties in need of new homes. We are based in Calgary, Alberta, but also have volunteers in other areas of Alberta and British Columbia.
Who We Are
Alberta Sheltie Rescue is a non-profit organization. Our Shelties come to us as strays, from shelters or veterinarians, or, from owners who can no longer keep them.
Once in our care, each Sheltie is given basic vet care, spayed or neutered, brought up to date on basic immunizations, and microchipped . We foster the Shelties in our own homes. Families wanting to adopt one of our shelties are very carefully screened so that each Sheltie goes to a home matching the needs of the Sheltie with the family situation.
Natasha of NATASHA"S DOG GROOMING now grooms all our foster Shelties in the Calgary area. She is an awesome groomer and has won National Grooming Competitions. Natasha specializes in scared and nervous dogs and provides her grooming in a warm, home environment. All breeds are welcome. If you have a dog that needs grooming, call 475-DOGS (3647 )and book your appointment today!!
Adopting a friend
Most of the dogs who we take in are adults but we do occasionally have pups as well. We often are asked to help senior Shelties who need a home to spend their last years in comfortably.
Each family interested in adopting a rescued sheltie from us must complete an initial questionnaire, followed by a home visit and vet reference check. Our aim is to find the perfect home for each sheltie.
Please contact us to request an Adoption Questionaire.
We do not have a shelter, as we foster and operate out of our homes.
We accept donations of new and used dog accessories such as crates, bedding, food toys etc. and monetary donations to assist with our vet clinic/hospital bills. Monetary donations may be mailed to Alberta Sheltie Rescue, 201 2011 University Drive NW , Calgary, Alberta T2N 4T4. Cheques can be written out to Alberta Sheltie Rescue.
We are always looking for foster homes. Experience with shelties, and some knowledge of training and dog behavior are needed. If you are interested and feel you can help make a difference in a homeless dog's life please contact us. Fostering can be very emotional at times as well as alot of work. It is truly a very rewarding experience.
