Does the S.P.C.A. belong to the City Pound?
NO! Although the two organizations operate out of the same building, we are two separate entities. The City Pound is owned by the City of Grande Prairie and the fines that people are given for having a pet "Running at Large" are issued by the City By-Law enforcement. The employees of the S.P.C.A. take care of the animals and the collection of fines for the City. After four days of City Impoundment, the pet comes under the direct responsibility of the S.P.C.A. at which point the pet is given an veterinarian examination and made available for adoption.
