Petfinder.com Launches the First Ever Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Day
Silver Spring, MD (July 23, 2009) – On August 12, Petfinder.com is launching a major initiative among its network of more than 12,600 shelters and rescue groups – the first-ever Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Day. On this designated day, Petfinder.com members across North America will be encouraged to actively promote their adoptable animals who don’t normally top everyone’s “most wanted” list.
Every day, a staggering number of homeless pets are overlooked simply because of their age, size, color or other circumstances beyond their control. According to a new survey from Petfinder.com, 96 percent of shelters and rescue groups currently have adoptable pets for which they are having extreme difficulty finding homes. In fact, 43 percent said that some of the pets they have listed on Petfinder.com have been homeless for one to two years.
Petfinder.com can offer the following assets for a story:
- Key insights from the Petfinder.com survey on the primary reasons pets are overlooked
- Interviews with shelters and rescue groups about their experiences with “less adoptable” pets
- Interview with Betsy Saul, the co-founder of Petfinder.com, about this issue from a national perspective
