More About Maddie

ADOPTED!!! Congratulations to Mattie for she has been officially adopted by her foster Mom & Dad, George and Joanne. Anyone could see that Mattie was completely devoted to Joanne and it went both ways so after many months, they decided to make it official. The GPA family is so happy for Mattie. Big, beautiful Mattie was rescued by GPA from a local animal shelter shortly before she was scheduled to be euthanized. Mattie, who is 5 years old, was picked up as a stray and quickly became a favorite of the shelter staff, who made her one of their top adoption priorities. She did have an adoptive home lined up...but the adopters changed their minds when they found out that she had tested heart worm positive. Mattie is now safe in a wonderful foster home, and having completed her heartworm treatment is now healthy and ready for a new home.

Mattie is about 5 years old and looks like a 50-50 Great Dane-Mastiff mix. She weights approximately 105 pounds, and is a beautiful dog. She is a true gentle giant, and very quickly becomes attached to the person or people caring for her. (She has a very appealing way of standing or sitting besides you and gazing adoringly into your face.) She is very well-behaved even though we believe (based on the callouses on her "elbows") that she lived outside on concrete for most of her life. She is a strong girl, and does need some work with leash walking and, like most large dogs, will need a home where she gets regular exercise.

Maddie is housebroken and well-behaved in a home. Sadly, she seems to have issues with some other dogs and she is not at all good with cats. Therefore, we are recommending that she go to a home where she will be an only pet.

Maddie is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and is microchipped.
