More About Jose

Jose is a sweet boy who we met while cruising the rows at Chicago's Animal Care and Control. We've had this great dog for a long time and we're not quite sure why! His foster mom reports that he's made himself quite at home with her dog, NLOL alum Margie, and loves spending the day playing with her and his other friends at his daycare facility. He is also equally happy following his foster mom around the house or sleeping with his head in her lap. According to his foster mom, he is quite the busy body/snuggler who always wants to be right in the middle of the action. She writes, "When he wakes up from naps, he makes lots of interesting sounds - including a one to two minute chorus of grunts, stretches and yawns. I sometimes think he's an 85 year old man stuck in a young dog's body!"

Jose has learned sit, down (lay), and is currently working on stay. He is food motivated and very eager to please. Since he is still in many ways a puppy, he is continuing to learn what is and is not an appropriate chew toy with improvement every week. Chew treats can keep him busy for hours. Except for the occasional accident, Jose is housetrained and is accustomed to staying in his crate when unsupervised. He sleeps through the night but, like many young dogs, he needs a bathroom break every 4-6 hours during the day. His ideal person/family would be able to provide the above as well as plenty of exercise and socialization. This little guy loves all people, but we suggest that he is placed in a home with older children as he is just a baby himself and doesn't know how to act properly around young children yet.
