More About Flea

Little Flea was a surprise find on a recent trip to Animal Care and Control. This tiny specimen of dogdom touched the heart of our favorite vet tech, who saw to it that Flea joined NLOL's crew at the first available opening! Of course we were happy to help.

This little four-pounder is a real hoot. As you can see from the second picture, he is very inquisitive. He's quite intelligent - his foster mom reports that he found her hidden stash of treats shortly after arriving at her house - and loves to gnaw on his treat-filled Kong toy for entertainment.

To all appearances, Flea would had no trouble getting adopted on ACC's adoption floor, but he has a special medical requirement which kept him from being placed in that fashion. Flea has a medical condition called paraphimosis, which occurs when a dog's penis cannot retract properly into its protective sheath. Believe it or not, this doesn't seem to bother the Flea at all - but his adoptive parent will be required to lubricate the exposed tip of his penis daily. Because of this condition, ACC felt that it was in Flea's best interest to be transferred to a rescue group.

Flea is currently living with another toy dog, but he doesn't care for her puppy antics. It's possible that an older small dog would be a good companion for the Flea. No big dogs for this little Napoleon, please - he thinks he's far larger than he is and hence does not really get along with big dogs. Flea's ideal home would be one where he would get lots of one-on-one attention from his person or family. He is much more of a people-focused dog than a dog-focused dog.
