More About Joy

Joy is a very special spirit. She was rescued from a shelter (2006) by someone who recently asked her colleague to assume her care as he relocated to Newfoundland . Although we are unaware of her history, she came to us as a loving, affectionate soul. She is bright, engaging, and extremely affectionate. Her coat and exquisite eyes are unique and energizing. She is a wonderful, wise companion. Joy as not a cuddly cat but vey affectionate. The person caring for her writes " She runs to the door to greet me and meows to let me know she wants petting. She attaches herself to me all evening (lying next to me on the couch) and all night (sleeping at my feet). BUT, she has to be the one that initiates the affection. If she wants to be touched, she will rub up against me or tap me with her paw. She curls up with me on her own accord. If I try to reach out and get her to snuggle with me, she gets nervous. I can be lying on the couch reading and if I ignore her, she'll climb on to me and curl up to sleep. She will not stay with me or curl up to sleep if I make the moves first. This gets her jumpy and nervous. Essentially though, she wants me to touch her and love her every waking minute I'm there and she sleeps at my feet every night. She loves being brushed. She is OK with me cutting her nails. She craves affection so much it is sad. I have to wonder why she needs love so much. It is constant! I let her lead the way and take my cues from her. " Joy will do well in a home that is quiet. She is somewhat shy and nervous with visitors but easily adapts and responds when encouraged. Simply put, Joy is just this --- Joyful. Joy has been adopted into a home with another older cat and a dog. She is very happy and we were pleasently surprised to learn that she likes other animals and was probably lonely as a single pet. This is what the adoptive parents wrote: I am happy to report that she is settled in very well. She has even taken over Philly's bed and plays with his dog toys (Species Confused Cat!). She fell in love with Shakespeare at first sight. They play occasionally and share our bed during the day. The whole family was sleeping together after the second night. I pick her up all the time and she had let me brush her and trim her nails. I am so proud to be her Mommy! A few months later we received another update; "As you can see, she is quite comfortable sharing 'space' with her brothers. I'm trying to get a good one of her on Philly's dog-bone bed (she spends her days there apparently-we catch her on it when we come home). I tried brushing her teeth the other week- she was very good about it. I was surprised; she didn't fight at all. She and Shakespeare chase each other for at least half and hour in the evenings. Just this past weekend, we baby-sat my brother-in-law's two dogs. She was terrified at first (naturally) but after a little while in hiding she came out and seemed quite calm. At one point, she watched from the chair in the living room while the three dogs played and rampaged. I'm so proud of her courage." Joy now has the attention of humans and the company of her 'peers'. It took a long time to find the perfect home for thie 'perfect' cat but evrything worked out well for both the family, the other animals and Joy..
