More About Lotus Blossom

Lotus Blossom's Meet Your Match Feline-alityTM is SIDEKICK (Orange)

Like all sidekicks, I'm just plain good company. I like attention, and I also like my solitude. I don't go looking for trouble but I'm no scaredy-cat either. If you are looking for a steady companion to travel with you on the road of life, look no further.

Lotus Blossom came to CAT in March of 2007 with a companion kitty, Molly Jane. Both cats had lived in the same household until they were abandoned, then rescued by a neighbor who brought them to our shelter. Lotus Blossom is a short-haired tortie who is about six years old.

Lotus Blossom has a shy, sweet personality. She will likely be up on a higher shelf when you go to visit her, as that is where timid cats feel safest. She is very alert and interested in what is going on in her room, but would like to be approached slowly until she knows that you have good intentions. She may flinch back just a bit when you first approach, but all it takes is a little petting and she'll be yours. In fact, if you rub her neck she'll be lying down, kneading and purring in no time.

One of Lotus Blossom's most unique characteristics is how adorably talkative she is. She can have an entire conversation with you in one petting session. She has a cute, quiet meow that she will use to communicate with you repeatedly as you spend time together--it is unbelievably cute. She is also mild-mannered and delicate. Her coloring is very dark for a tortie, which makes her very dramatic looking. She has big, innocent yellow eyes.

Lotus Blossom will likely come out of her shell a great deal when she is out of the shelter, and in a loving home. At this point, she clearly enjoys affection, but is also unnerved by her environment. She will enjoy being petted, and will come rub on you for more attention when she's in the mood. Do watch her eyes and tail for signs of over-stimulation, and give her space when she needs it. Because she is a little nervous, she may do best in a home without small children or dogs, although she lives happily with other cats.

Please consider adopting Lotus Blossom with her best friend, Molly Jane. These two cats have lived together for most of their lives and would love to continue to be together. Plus, CAT offers a special discount when you adopt two cats together! What a deal! (see below)

Tortie Fact and Folkore

  • Torties are not your average cats.
  • The Celts believed that a tortoiseshell cat was good luck in a home.
  • The English believed that torties could remove warts if you rubbed their tail on the wart during the month of May.
  • In Scotland and Ireland, a stray tortoiseshell cat settling in one's home is a good omen.
  • To dream of a tortoiseshell cat means luck in love.
  • In Normandy, seeing a tortoiseshell cat foretold death by accident.
  • Edgar Allen Poe was devoted to his tortoiseshell Catarina. She inspired his story "The Black Cat". She sat with his wife during her illness and frequently sat on his shoulder when he wrote.
  • Torties are almost always female. This is because the genes for color reside on the X chromosome, so for a cat to have multiple colors (i.e., black and orange), they must have two X chromosomes, therefore making them female.
  • Pretty Lotus Blossom is waiting to meet you at the Clackamas Petsmart store. Adoption hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 12-4 or by appointment. Come meet all the wonderful adoptable cats and kittens from Cat Adoption Team!
