More About ELVIS-ADOPTED!

I'M LEUKEMIA +, PLEASE ADOPT ME INTO A SINGLE CAT HOUSEHOLD!!!

Hi, my name is Elvis. I was a starving neighborhood stray. I was found eating bread put out for the birds and not doing to well fending for myself out on the street. That was when my foster mom brought me indoors. She took me to the vet to be neutered and unfortunately, I tested positive for leukemia. Thankfully, the right person found me and is willing to give me a chance, unlike most people who find leukemia positive kitties. Most kitties are euthanized right away because the leukemia virus is highly contagious to other cats, but not people or other animals. I am a real affectionate kitty that loves to be petted and loved. I even like to be put on my back and to have my belly rubbed and love to receive tons of kisses. I am looking for a home with a person who either doesn't have any other cats at the time or someone who has other leukemia positive kitties where I can live my life out in happiness. Is this home yours? If so, please contact Saved Whiskers Rescue today so that you can meet me. OR you can adopt my girlfriend, Star who is also listed on the website and has the leukemia virus. I assure you that you will absolutely love me! I am a very friendly cat that would love to have an owner like you! This is sad news because the leukemia virus puts me at a disadvantage to getting adopted. Homes are few and far to come by as it is, but having leukemia lessens my chances even more. If you are interested in adopting me, please contact SWRO today!

THE TRUTH ABOUT FeLV

*Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a virus that may eventually suppress the immune system of the carrier animal. The most common secondary disease that affects the cat is cancer.

*The FeLV virus is present in the saliva, blood, urine, and feces of an infected cat. For the virus to spread to another cat, prolonged contact is most likely necessary. Mutual grooming is the most common means of transmission.

*FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) & FeLV are unrelated.

*Between 60-70% of the adult cat community has a natural immunity to the virus.

*There is a vaccine for FeLV, but it is only reported as being 60-90% effective.

*The life expectancy of an adult cat with FeLV varies tremendously, given that there are several strains of the virus, some being more debilitating to the cat than others. With a less aggressive infection, the cat could live many happy years.

*A cat can test "False-Positive" for FeLV. Because of this, many cats who were never infected in the first place, or would never have become ill, have unfortunately been killed.
