What a difference one young person can make!!

13 YEAR OLD COLLECTS DONATIONS FOR ALMOST HOME’S HOMELESS ANIMALS

The kindness of some of the youngest members of our community is heartwarming. 13 year old junior volunteer and animal lover Ariel Starr recently celebrated her Bat Mitzvah by generously collecting donations for the animals at the Almost Home Animal Haven of Southfield. Ariel is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Starr of Oak Park, MI.

To support her efforts, Ariel requested that her guests bring pet supplies as well as financial contributions to her Bat Mitzvah party, which was cleverly themed ‘In The Doghouse With Ariel’ . Ariel explained to guests in her invitation, “The more we can give, the more lives we can save. It’s as simple as that.” Her family and guests certainly sensed Ariel’s passion for her project and graciously donated.

The Starr family put a lot of thought into this special event. Each guest table at the celebration had a centerpiece that creatively consisted of a painted black and silver cardboard doghouse. A rolled up blanket was placed at the bottom of each decorative doghouse and the table was scattered with pet toys, balls, bones, and leashes that were to be donated to Almost Home. Instead of being numbered, each table was cleverly identified by a different breed of dog.

Ariel and her sisters Sarah (9 yrs.) and Dayna (16 months) proudly presented Almost Home founders Gail and Lauren Montgomery with collections of $571, a large dog bed, 20 cozy pastel blankets, 24 photo frames, and an abundance of leashes, collars, toys, bones, and pet food. “It was so great to see the support of close family and friends when I saw the huge pile of donations in our family room! It’s so nice to know that the animals at Almost Home will be helped and well taken care of.” said Ariel on reflecting upon her project.

“Ariel Starr is a true hero to our animals and is the sweetest 13 year old girl we know. I wasn’t surprised when I met her family when they all walked into our Haven with friendly smiles that radiated warmth and love. The Almost Home animals and volunteers are fortunate to know such wonderful giving people. Thank you Ariel and family! Love, Hugs and kisses.” Gail and Lauren (Almost Home Founders)

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

- We ask for your patience as we review your application. Almost Home receives numerous applications each day and cannot respond to every one individually.

- Approved applicants are based on best fit, not first submitted. ALMOST HOME RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANY APPLICANT, so please understand that it is within our discretion to make those decisions on behalf of our animals.

- OUR ADOPTION EVENTS ARE VERY BUSY so please keep that in mind if you intend to come. You should expect to spend some time there if you are sincerely interested in one of our animals (since we have limited manpower and many visitors to screen).

-Due to space limitations, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THE RESCUE YOU ARE INTERESTED IN WILL BE AT THE ADOPTION EVENT (we are oftentimes saving up to 80 animals at a time!) We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

- We ask that you DO NOT contact Premier Pet Supply about our animals. They are kind enough to provide space for our adoption events, but are not involved with our rescue work.

- If a rescue is "PENDING" it is currently in the process of being adopted, but may be available in the future if it is not finalized.

- Keep in mind that we depend 100% on volunteers, most of whom have full-time jobs, so we ask for your understanding as we do the best we can in the endless effort to find homes for these deserving animals!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE!
