More About Charade

Funny Valentine

(In January 2007 we rescued Charade from the streets where she had starved so long she weighed just 4 lbs. and could barely walk. The first few weeks were touch-and-go, but she hung on and rallied, grew stronger, filled out, became as active and sassy as any cat, and found herself a wonderful new home. Three months later Charade contracted a cancer so fast-growing that only days after diagnosis she had to be humanely euthanized. Her heartbroken adopter was by her side. We at Stray Feral Rescue share in the deep feelings of loss over this special little cat.

To all of you who knew Charade during her four months in foster care with us, thank you for the time you spent with her, the cuddles you gave her, and the hope and good wishes you held for her.)

Here's an old gal who deserves a better life than she had before coming to us. Charade is a sweet, gentle cat who will win your heart while making little chirps and trills to express herself. We got her after she showed up at someone's house in January, wanting affection, food, water, and to go in where it's warm. She was skin and bones and mats---and she'd been so starved that she was even losing her fur. She's an average size but weighed less than 4.5 lbs. Now she's up to about 7 lbs., her hair has stopped falling out. We've shaved the mats we couldn't comb out, and she's able to keep her coat soft and lovely again. She's a very good girl, happy to have attention, and happy to spend most of her time resting in her favorite chair.

She was very good at the vets who estimated her age anywhere from 12-18 years (she seemed a lot older when she was so thin and weak; now we think she's closer to 12). She had some arthritis in her right elbow and shoulder that made her a bit stiff when she was fresh from the cold outdoors, but she gets around well and easily now, likes to jump and perch, and avidly uses scratching toys. Because she seemed so fragile and near death when we got her, we didn't want to stress her out with too much medical treatment at once so she was tested for FeLeuk/FIV (negative) and given that shot. She also tested negative for intestinal parasites. Now that we've had her for a couple months, she's about to get her Distemper combo. We haven't been able to tell if she's already been spayed, but she's shown no signs of going into heat this spring. She's able to hold her own with the other cats and small dog in her foster home, but would prefer they kept their distance from her. Despite how much we've paid for her vet care, Charade's adoption fee is just a negotiable $50.

If you're interested in adopting, please read our home page for more information and email rsq@iphouse.com or call 651-644-3890 (anytime between 9am and 9pm) to have us send you a copy of our Adoption Contract and Application and set up an appointment to meet Charade in her St. Paul foster home. As with all Stray Feral Rescue cats, we will not allow her to be declawed or let loose outdoors.

Thanks for considering a homeless pet!

Charade is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.
