More About Radar
Radar bonds strongly to his human and doggy friends, and can be a little intimidated by strange places and people. He is learning to trust the world, and will do well in continued obedience training to maintain his confidence and focus. The Ray-man is very food motivated and loves to please his people, so he makes an ideal student. His size and energy make him a great candidate for agility classes, as well! If you are looking for a laid back couch potato "let's walk around the block" dog, then Radar is probably not the right fit for you. This boy is full of great puppy energy and would love to find a family who has the same zest for life as he does. Radar is a proud graduate of NLOL's School's For The Dogs obedience program, and loves to learn!
The scarring on Radar's face is the result of a mysterious skin irritation that began shortly after he came to NLOL. At first we thought the scarring was only due to an unending fascination with his kitty foster pals (and their sharp claws), but after a few vet visits, he was diagnosed with a form of vasculitis. Vasculitis is a general term that applied to several conditions caused by the inflammation of blood vessels; in Radar's case, it led to sores on his face, ears and tail. His skin has improved greatly with a grain-free diet and supplements, and while he looks a little strange he’s as healthy as can be! Radar may require yearly blood testing to ensure that everything is still flowing as it should, but with a high quality diet and regular veterinary care, he will be a-okay. Unfortunately, some scars will probably remain -- but we like to think they add character to his funny little face!
Because of his high energy level, we recommend that Radar go to an adult home, or one with older children only. He'd do well with an equally energetic owner who will take him jogging and/or to doggy daycare on a regular basis -- in fact he is a favorite at one of our partner daycare facilities, where he will always be welcome! Radar LOVES his pit mix foster sister and would probably do best with a female dog in a home. As you can tell by his pictures, he is also a friend of assertive cats!
