More About *DIAMOND*

This page was last updated on February 28, 2009 and as of this date this pet is AVAILABLE.

FOSTER HOME NEEDED! A year after we thought Diamond found her forever home, she was returned in September 2006, at no fault of her own. Her adopters were separating and neither wanted to take Diamond. Diamond was placed in boarding for 3 months and eventually returned to her original Jack's Angels foster family on 11/19/06. Their pack, which had changed quite a bit during the year Diamond was away, will not accept her back. Because of this, her foster family is not able to give her the foster home she deserves. Diamond desperately needs a great foster or forever home to help make up for all the humans who have let her down.

Jack's Angels adoptions are usually restricted to within 100 miles of Austin, TX. In certain circumstances, exceptions will be made up for adoptions within 200 miles of Austin, TX. Visit our homepage for information on our adoption process and requirements.

BEAUTIFUL DIAMOND!
Diamond is a Labrador Retriever, American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was born on August 25, 2003, making her 4 years old. She weighs 65lbs, full grown. Diamond has a straberry blonde coat with flashy white markings and auburn eyes.

DIAMOND'S PAST!
Diamond's been let down so many times. She and her five siblings were born to a feral dog in a secluded area and rescued at just a few weeks of age. She remained in the care of her original rescuer, with her siblings and many other dogs, until she was 5 or 6 months old, when she was attacked by dogs within the household. Diamond was transferred to Jack's Angels to physically and emotionally recover from the trauma. Once arriving to her new foster home, it was discovered Diamond was very under socialized and extremely fearful of men. Diamond's foster Mom consulted with a couple of trainers who both agreed Diamond's fear of men did not result from lack of socialization, especially since there was a man in her previous home, but rather Diamond was a victim of abuse. In her new foster home, Diamond made fast friends with the household kitties, including one that has a strong dislike for canines. Diamond's foster Mom worked with her and saw great improvements in her social skills with both people and other dogs. After a year and a half of searching, we were sure we had found Diamond a forever home. Sadly, one year after placement, her adopters separated and both opted to leave Diamond behind as they went their separate ways. The trauma of being returned caused Diamond to regress back into the fearful dog we once knew. Things were further complicated by the fact that boarding was the only option for Diamond for the first three months following her being returned. Diamond was finally moved back to original Jack's Angels foster home in November 2006 to, once again, begin the rehabilitation process. Sadly, their pack, which had changed quite a bit during the year Diamond was away, will not accept her back. Because of this, her foster family is not able to give her the foster home she deserves. Diamond desperately needs a great foster or forever home to help make up for all the humans that let her down.

MORE ABOUT DIAMOND!
Once you've earned Diamond's trust, she'll be the most devoted and loyal friend of your life. While you're gone, she's a good girl. Diamond has a history of crate anxiety so she does best with the run of the house. She does like to hang out on the couch but she won't chew things or have accidents. She might make a few mistakes during the adjustment period (the first few weeks) but she's eager to please her people. When you get home, she'll greet you with a wagging tail and butt. She would make a great walking/jogging/running buddy. She's athletic and playful without being hyperactive. She equally enjoys fun outdoor activities and just hanging out inside. She likes being right by her person's side and her favorite thing in the world is roadtrips. Diamond enjoys running errands with her people during the cooler months and splashing in the water during warmer months. Diamond is best suited for a home with no children or older children. She would be fine in a home with a compatible dog or two. She would LOVE a home with kitties. She treats kitties with lots of love and respect and never chases them, even when they are running across the yard. It's not uncommon to catch her snuggling a kitty on the couch or kissing one as they brush up against her.
