More About Beware!

Rescuers Beware! New "rescues" have been popping up in our area advertising they have pets that are fully vetted, though many of these animals have never seen a veterinary office let alone had any form of medical care or treatments...some not-so-nice rescues have even been known to use rescued animals for breeding. Animals are sold strictly for profit with money going into peoples pockets rather than to promote animal health and care. Before you adopt, please ask these questions... Where do your pets come from?
Have they been examined by a licensed veterinarian?
Is this pet spayed/neutered (if old enough)?
What vaccines has this pet had? Does it have any aggressive/destructive behavior?
Where does my adoption donation go?
Is this a licensed non-profit rescue? (FOR PROFIT means exactly that, getting this pet a home means food on the table and money in the pocket for them).
These are all questions a legitimate rescue should be able to answer. When an organization decides to rescue a pet, their goal should be to find it the best home possible. They should not be "breeding" animals with the sole purpose to sell them. Many needy pets require medical attention, is that being provided to them?
When an indiviual decides to adopt a needy pet, they want to help an animal in need and know that their personal donation will go to help other needy pets. A good rescue will ask you more questions than you ask them. Please be wary, unfortunately puppy millers and animal brokers come in all shapes and sizes (many are currently popping up in our own area!). Our adoption protocol is not meant to discourage anyone from adopting, but to ensure that our babies get the best homes possible. Help our rescue continue to help the needy pets in our area and please don't forget the dozens of other animals waiting to find their fur-ever homes at the local dog control officers facilities and shelters.
