Husky, White German Shepherd [Mix]

We don't know the real name of this poor dog. She is our first "Katrina Survivor" animal, given to us by a worker helping in the hurricane ravaged area. She is estimated to be about a year old, weighs 55 lbs., and is spayed. She was wearing a collar and so was an owned animal at some point. She walked up to the worker's car. He did his best to remove the oil and other filth from her coat, using his drinking water. The sorrow and confusion in her eyes, multiplied tens of thousands of times tells the story of how people's and animal's lives have been affected by this disaster more eloquently than anything we can say. UPDATE: Our sickest Katrina rescue dog is much improved. She is seen in the third photo having the special baths she must have for 10 weeks. She chewed up her bedding. While we wouldn't normally be thrilled with that, in this case we took it as a good sign that she is getting back to being a normal young dog. She can do a very mournful howl when she wants attention. She remains inexplicably terrified of cars, even at a long distance, although she is perfectly willing to ride in them. UPDATE 2: Katrina, now called Katie has been adopted by one of the rescuers who helps on our mobile spay/neuter clinics. Katrina/Katie lives with the rescuer and her children, a white German Shepherd named Houdini and several cats who love Katie.
