It is Completed! Andy's Sanctuary is built and in service. Andy's Sanctuary is a fully-enclosed outdoor screened room attached to the family room by a sliding glass door. The cats can come and go from Andy's Sanctuary as they please through their own cat-door. The room overlooks the privacy and safety of our large, fenced back yard. It was on the concrete deck which provides the foundation of Andy's Sanctuary that Andy's mother and I first sat as she gave me advice and assessed my newest rescue dog, lethal-white Australian Shepherd, Rosalie. As our two rescue Aussie's played in the back yard, we discussed much - including our two gifted sons. The screened room is decorated with with cat furniture, cat-toys and even sturdy outdoor patio furniture for humans to relax out there with the cats and carry on the all-important petting and stroking. In the safety of Andy's Sanctuary, our rescued foster cats enjoy the fresh air and blue skies safely in a protected, enclosed environment while they wait for their furrever families to come and take them home. The Sanctuary is usually filled with cats reclining, observing, playing or chasing bugs. Andy's Sanctuary lures animals and human visitors alike. Even the shy, feral-in-taming cats enjoy strolling and reclining in the sanctuary. It is a nice, half-way place for them to adjust to a new life with humans, secure between the hard world of outside and the unfamiliar indoor housecat life. Cat-proof screening keeps them safely inside and prevents tears. Andy's Sanctuary is a favorite place for all of the animals to lie around and watch the Carolina rains fall. The room is well-loved and always occupied. It has relieved crowding and stress in the Catnip Cottage house tremendously, as happy cats reline on sunny, warm summer's days and come to life on star-filled nights.

Andy's Sanctuary was built in commemoration of Andrew Keith Anderson, June 17, 1980 - Nov 5, 2004. Although his earthly existence has ended, his soul does live on. Andy was a bright shooting star: Shining, brilliant, gifted, fast moving and gone too soon. He was a most talented artist, devoted son, animal lover, brilliant scholar and an accomplished musician. The Sanctuary is a way we can celebrate his life, his love of animals and all that he meant to those whom he touched.
