More About Coyote
Coyote’s foster mom writes in:
Love this guy! He did great at hook up, wasn’t chewing lines or his harness and was very calm as we got all the dogs on the line. We usually like to keep our dogs calm and quiet before we take off and Coyote had very minor issues with noise. He doesn’t like to ride in a sled bag much but I had an extra person on my sled so we were able to hold him in well. I figure he ran about 7 miles before he started to tire and I carried him for two miles until we got back to the truck. He sat well in the dog box while we took the rest of the team out for longer and was very well behaved when we came back home and set him loose in the yard.
I already consider him a main dog in our team and I don't see any reason to leave him at home. This is very good news since we have more clients coming out for tours and we can expose him to more people and advertise that he’s available for adoption. I think he will fit well into a pet home without small animals. He’s very gentle and easy to work with no matter what we are doing.
NOVEMBER 27, 2009 UPDATE
Coyote is settling into his new foster home, after saying goodbye to his old foster, who is heading out of state. I had the chance to spend some time with him during the move, and Coyote showed some of his best features throughout. He is a friendly boy, very strong on the leash, who just soaks up the love. He would probably do great in an active pet home, but also seems to have a lot of miles left in him to run in a team. A very sweet, loving boy.
OCTOBER 3, 2009 UPDATE
Coyote has been an integral part of his adopter's team but the owner has to move to another country to take care of family so it is with great heartache that he is giving up his dogs.
Coyote is a 9 year old boy that is sweet as can be. He is a nice running dog that has skijored and runs lead. He does have a fairly high prey drive so you have to watch him around small critters, but he can be run off leash and comes when he is called.
JANUARY 3, 2006 UPDATE
Coyote is doing well this winter, running distances of up to about 15 miles. He is a good puller, a big eater and an easy keeper. His trot is a bit off but his lope is beautiful. Coyote is a very friendly dog, making a nice companion.
FEBRUARY 3, 2005: AVAILABLE NOW
Coyote is 4 years old. He is a trained sled dog with good ability. He arrived at the shelter with several other dogs from the same home due to his owner's health. He is good with other dogs and behaves well in harness. Coyote is friendly, outgoing, and easy to handle.
Coyote went mushing with some volunteers on January 21st: "He is from a mushing background. Several dogs were turned in for the person had medical problems and had to stop mushing. He is a lanky dog...could go sprint maybe...definitely mid or distance speed. A very nice and friendly dog. No dew claws. Ran well in wheel. Good drive. Nice gait. He is tan with brown eyes. 50+ pounds."
Coyote's adoption fee is $100. In order to adopt an SCL dog, see "How To Adopt" and download an Adoption Application; we can't consider you without one!
Coyote is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
