More About Fizzie

Fizzie was adopted to a couple a few years back. The couple recently broke up and the husband moved out of the house. When we first adopted her out to this couple "everything" about them and their present animals were in perfect order. The wife continued to keep Fizzie, but apparently Fizzie became very ill. Instead of taking her to the vets, or calling us, she left Fizzie uncared for. Fizzie was ill for over 2 months before the wife called us and asked us to take Fizzie to the vets to be put to sleep or she would drop the cat off at a shelter to be euthanized. When asked what was going on with her. She replied that Fizzie was disoriented, eating very little, getting very thin, sleeping a lot, and now started not to use her litter box. We asked why she didn't take her to the vets and she said that she didn't have any money and was losing the house also.
We flew over to the house and saw a very emaciated cat that didn't have the strength to even stand, let alone try to find a litter box (which were placed on top of tables so that the dogs didn't get to them). It didn't even look like the Fizzie we once remembered. We immediately scooped Fizzie up and rushed her right to the vets office to find out that she had pneumonia, was extremely dehydrated, had ear mites, and had wasted away to only 3 lbs. Fizzie was hospitalized for a week at the vets.
Fizzie update! Fizzie had a bad turn and had to revisit the vet's and stay for 4 more days. She has come back to us and is on 5 different kinds of meds, baby food and boiled chicken. She is slowly bouncing back, but is in guarded condition. We are still hoping for a full recovery for Fizzie an we are not giving up as long as she shows us that she is willing to fight for life.
Another FIzzie update! Fizzie is still in guarded condition, but seems to be eating a little more and her stools are firming up just a bit. This good turn has only been in the past couple of days, so we are crossing our fingers. She is still weak and sometimes doesn't make it to the litter box, but is trying.
Fizzie update! - Fizzie has gone back into another vet's care to see if they can figure out what can be this poor little girls problem. Although she has gained weight, she continues to have bowel problems and vomiting. She continues to baffle the vets and has been in hospitalization for over a week now. They have run a multitude of tests and some were sent out for results. She is undergoing a new treatment at the vet's. She just started yesterday and we are still waiting to see if she responds to it. Our thought and prayers are with you Fizz!
Update -Fizzie came back to us still without a good diagnosis, even though she under went all sorts of testing and trials. She is even enrolled in a study from Texas for her symptoms and still they haven't got a cause for what is really wrong with her. She continues to hang in there, but has come back to us with a little less weight then before she went in.
Final update: Sadly, on Nov 6th, Fizzie passed away. We just couldn't get it together for this little one with so much spirit and not enough strength in her body. When all was said and done with this little girl, we had about $4000 + invested into her care. You will be missed Fizz!
Follow up: We had an autopsy done and sent things out on her and still have come up blank for an answer. Guess her disease will remain a mystery, but one thing is for sure, her gutsy spirit will always be in our hearts.
