More About STEVIE
Stevie is a handsome white cat with tabby markings. He's maybe about 7 years old now. He was found in the middle of Two Notch Road after he'd apparently been hit by a car and dragged along for some distance underneath it, dislocating both his hips and a front leg, and fracturing his pelvis in several places. It's a miracle he survived, but somehow he did. The person who found him at first thought she was passing by a dead cat, but then saw a twitch, rushed home and got a pet taxi out of her attic, then rushed him to a vet, where his legs were taped to his body in an effort to immobilize him while the fractures and dislocations healed. We ended up with him after arranging for him to go to another shelter, who thought he was feral because he was still in such pain from his injuries at the time and they could not handle him, and his bandages were soaked in urine and poor Stevie couldn't move except to swat with his one remaining good paw! He was panting in pain, and every noise frightened him to death - he probably thought a car was going to get him again. Our vet removed his bandages and gave him pain medication, then he had FHO hip surgery on both hips and was cage rested for three weeks at the vets, then came home to us. His staples were eventually removed, his hair which had been shaved off from his middle downwards (awfully embarrassing, poor fellow), grew back back very nicely. He is so glad of that - he was so embarrassed when he was naked from the waist down! He has now long been fully recovered, but is still waiting for a home. Stevie has been neutered (the vet had a hard time finding the parts to neuter, as poor Stevie had left most of them on Two Notch Road - ouch!). He took a while to trust people again, so we wonder if someone threw him into the road, or even tied him to the car? It does seem as though he may have been abused or persecuted in the past, but he is doing well with us now, and enjoys being petted, leaning his head into our hands and making biscuits in his fur bed or the cat tree, both of which he loves. Stevie will need someone who is willing to earn his trust. He is a tame cat, but went through a very, very bad experience that has not been easy for him to forget. We think that with patience, however, he will make a good kitty for someone. If you would like to donate towards Stevie's $800 vet bill, please send a check to Carolina Cats, P. O.
