More About Elmo

ELMO (NOW ROONEY) HAS BEEN ADOPTED!
HERE'S WHAT HIS ADOPTERS HAD TO SAY:

Rooney is doing really well! When we first got him he was very skittish and scared of almost everything. Now he has a lot of confidence and only occasionally displays a little bit of jumpiness at noises or new things. He is sweet and silly, adores our older dog, Zoie, and loves to play with our friends' dogs as well. We took him for his first hike a few weeks ago (see pictures) and I thought he'd explode with joy as he raced up and down the trail. He has also filled out--he is smooth and muscular instead of bony. He is just a wonderful dog, a great addition to our family, and we are so happy to have him.

Thanks to all the great people at Hedgesville Hounds! Please feel free to post this update on your website.

Elmo's Original Petfinder Listing
Elmo, male pointer mix, 1 year old, neutered, 55 pounds

This handsome chap is Elmo, a pointer mix. With his classic black-and-white coloring, one could be forgiven for thinking that Elmo was the traditional all-American dog. It's partly true, after all -- Elmo is handsome, loyal, athletic and loving. However, despite his classic exterior, Elmo is what might be described as a "sensitive soul" -- he is a little shy, and might need a little more encouragement than other more outgoing dogs. When he meets new people, Elmo wouldn't think of gladhanding them or otherwise coming on strong -- instead, he stays back, waiting to see whether he is wanted. Likewise, a firm "NO" is all it takes for Elmo to realize that he has made a misstep, and he will take the correction to heart. Suffice to say, once Elmo has made a friend, this person is a friend forever.

Elmo was found as a stray along with his mother and sister, both now successfully adopted. This has given his foster, an experienced "Dog Mom," some time to work with Elmo and help build his confidence. She reports that he gets along with the other dogs in the home, and that he is responsive and very eager to please.

Like a lot of dogs who were strays for a while or otherwise needed to fend for themselves, Elmo knows a good thing when he sees it: he is very happy to be in his foster home, and will be even happier to be in a forever home. We say about such dogs that "they never take anything for granted -- they are grateful for everything." With his sensitive, loving heart, Elmo will prove this to his adopter(s) many times.
