More About Poppy
HERE'S WHAT HER ADOPTER HAS TO SAY:
Roxie is doing wonderfully. She is a happy, spunky little girl who has settled in nicely to our daily routine.
She and Gracie, the XXL cat, are now the best of friends, and I find them sitting side by side, watching the world go by from the living room windows. Of course, Roxie is always up for a romp around the house and the cat has gotten much faster since her arrival!
Roxie is also getting friendlier with neighbors and other dogs, less hesitant and more trusting. She has bundles of energy and likes to play with her toys, or sometimes just carry them around from place to place. I know it's been a busy day when I come home and find toys spread out all over the house!
Altho she was completely shaved and had to wear sweaters through the winter, her hair has grown in beautifully. She is full of blonde curls, the same color as a buff cocker spaniel, but her facial features and personality are decidedly terrier (prob Westie or soft-coated Wheaton). That is why we consider her the perfect sperrier -- she got the best of both breeds!
More adorable than her smiling face and happy little wiggling body, however, is her strong desire to snuggle. Never have I seen a dog who is so content to just be by your side, or if later in the evening, curled up in bed waiting for you. Altho we are not sure what happened in Roxie's previous life to bring her into the Hedgesville family, we are very grateful that she is part of our family now!
Poppy's Original Petfinder ListingPoppy - Female - 4-6 years of age - cream and white - not sure of breed -- we have heard Cockapoo, PBGV, Havanese, English Cocker (in other words, if you are looking for a particular breed, we can't guarantee that Poppy is anything other than adorable) - 16 pounds
Since her arrival in care, little Poppy has won everyone's heart. She is as dear and plucky as she is beautiful, and while we fret about the severity of the matting neglect has wrought on her coat, Poppy seems confident that any adopter will discern her own great personal merit when they meet her; she knows that her coat will grow back.
Clearly a cuddler, Poppy loves to be held. Her joy in receiving care is boundless, and although neglect has clearly been part of her past, her personality and disposition are equally clear indicators of her personal faith that she is worthy of love. She also deserves to eat a good bit more than she has been receiving, and it will be a pleasure for her adoptive human(s) to "plump her up" a little.
Poppy's story is one of the many cases in which a dog found the resilience to remain hopeful as the lives of her owners spiraled downward. Poppy and her big brother Paul, a black Lab, were left in cages in the front yard of their abandoned house, temperatures well below freezing. Fortunately, we were notified of their plight.
It is probably too much to hope that Poppy could stay with Paul, but it is worth mentioning that the two dogs managed to get through their ordeals together, and Paul seems genuinely distressed by the disintegration of his household, as if he is somehow accountable for it.
At any rate, both dogs will doubtless enter their permanent adoptive homes with an added incentive, and a deep gratitude for simple care and affection.
