Keeshond

Thanks to a very determined teenager named Kelly & the help of many rescue volunteers from both Keeshond rescue & other groups, Nikki traveled over 950 miles in just 2 days & arrived here in April, 2001. Nikki had been shaved to the skin before arriving in rescue & she faced many health challenges, ranging from whipworms to very severe heartworm disease. She had probably never lived in a home before & was lacking in some social skills & bathroom ettiquette but despite it all, she soon became known as sweet Snickers Pie. A little love & kindness goes a long way & soon Nikki showed that inspite of all the neglect & abuse she had suffered before rescue, she was determined to be a survivor. Afterall, her foster mom had promised her that if she would beat that nasty heartworm disease & not go potty in the house, she would have a loving forever family of her very own. Just 5-1/2 months after arriving in foster care, Nikki went to live with her forever family on September 10, 2001 - barely 24 hours before the tragedy that changed our nation forever. Once home, Nikki quickly became protector, confidant, companion & playmate to "her family". Sadly, in February 2003, Nikki developed cancer. On June 28,2003, Nikki went to a place just this side of heaven known as the Rainbow Bridge where she is waiting for her family so they can cross the Bridge together.
