More About KATIE

Katie is one of the breeding mill dogs that we managed to rescue from Lancaster county puppy mills. She is 7 lbs, only a year old, and as sweet a dog as you could want. She loves other dogs and wags her tail at the dogs in the foster home. She is just learning that we aren't going to hurt her like the miller humans did and she is responding with affection. We got her spayed, dental, heartworm test, all shots, and gave her Interceptor and Frontline, so she is brand new and ready to go. Her adoption fee is only $400 which, as you know, won't cover those vet costs! She also is a very young dog at about 1 yr old so needs a home where she can be assured of spending the next 15 years and therefore cannot go to a senior. She MUST have a home with at least one other small dog, a fenced yard, and someone home to continue housebreaking her. If you meet Katie's needs and want this adorable little girl for your very own, please read below to see how to adopt....

ADOPTION PROCEDURE AND GENERAL INFORMATION:

Each dog is vaccinated, heartworm tested, spayed or neutered, given all shots and if needed, a dental and any surgery is done, all for the bargain price of a few hundred. Not a bargain? Think again. Call your local vet and see how much these items would cost if you did them yourself at the vets. Our adoption fees do not even cover the vet costs!

WE ARE NOT A SHELTER YOU CAN VISIT

WE ARE A RESCUE, A NON-PROFIT VOLUNTEER NETWORK OF PRIVATE FOSTER HOMES in VARIOUS NJ and PA LOCATIONS. Our mailing address is for mail only and there are NO adoptable pets there. There is no shelter to visit. You need to follow our application procedure explained below in order to adopt from us. Please read this before you write to ask how to adopt. It is all explained!!!.

Because these dogs are in private homes, only qualified potential adopters can meet the dog. To qualify for this, we need an application, a vet history we discuss with your vet, and a home inspection.
Every adoption from SOS DOGS includes a FREE DVD on training your adopted dog, a new toy for your dog, a folder with information on health, safety and training, and help from our experienced dog people for as long as you need it.

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BELOW TO SEE HOW TO ADOPT

REQUIREMENTS TO ADOPT FROM SOS DOGS:

  • VET HISTORY: You must be an experienced dog owner with a vet history we can discuss with your vet. We do not adopt to first time pet owners. We look to see that your current or previous dog(s) was altered, kept up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative, and received all recommended care when ill.

  • NO LARGE DOGS: Large dogs often see little dogs as prey or can inadvertently hurt the little ones, even if they don't mean to. We often make exceptions for gentle dogs like labs and goldens.

  • NO CHILDREN UNDER 5: Children can also inadvertently hurt a tiny dog

  • NO ELECTRIC FENCE: No invisible fence as we feel the shock collar is cruel and it doesn't prevent predators from coming in.

  • COME TO NJ: You must be able to come to southern or central NJ where most dogs are fostered.

  • ELIMINATION CONSIDERATIONS: NO small dog can hold it's urine for 8-9 hours while someone is at work all day, and we can't place a dog with that expectation. Small dogs can go to working homes if you are willing to train the dog to use newspaper or pads and there is another dog to keep the dog company. Dogs are pack animals and do not like being alone.

Remember, we are DOG ADVOCATES and we are here ONLY to find the best home FOR THE DOG!

HOW TO ADOPT:

If you think your home is right for this dog's needs and you meet our requirements above, please print an ADOPTION APPLICATION.
Follow instructions regarding Acrobat Reader needed to print it. Print, fill in and mail, fax or scan and email the ADOPTION APPLICATION. Adoption fees are on each dog's listing. If your home is selected you will be notified. If you have any other questions about this dog that are not answered on our website (please visit www.sosdogs.org first) email us at Adopt@sosdogs.org

KATIE is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
