More About Monty

Monty - Chihuahua mix - male/neutered - young (approx. 2 years of age) - biscuit and tan short coat - 13 pounds

Winsomely handsome, Monty is also an extraordinarily affectionate and loving little fellow. What is special about Monty is that his loving outlook would seem to include the entire universe at large - he is as ardently happy at play with other dogs as he is curled up in his foster mom's lap, where he would spend the day were he given the opportunity, showering her with kisses.

For a Chihuahua, Monty is a strapping guy at 13 pounds, which leads us to believe that he may be a Chi mix, although we will never know. He is slender and well built, a sturdy dog who is undaunted by the fact that he is quite tiny compared to the other dogs in his foster home, all of whom he regards as great friends.

In fact, Monty has distinguished himself throughout his "rescue" career by his touchingly kind nature. He was a most cooperative and grateful "inmate" of the Tucker County Animal Control shelter, and he won their hearts and loyalty during his stay at that dedicated facility. He did not murmur a word of complaint about the fact that he was housed with cats, due to space limitations. Instead, he befriended cats.

Indeed, it would be hard for any creature, great or small, to resist Monty's ways. He is intently responsive and interested in everyone he meets, and his soft brown eyes hold eye contact deeply and fully. His enormous ears make a legion effort to stand at attention in unison, however, one ear is always up, and the other lops over, which gives him a slightly comical and somewhat quizzical expression.

Despite his diminutive stature, Monty has innate confidence and stability, primarily because of his open and honest nature. He came to Hedgesville Hounds offering absolute trust and willingness, and he has been a quick study in the basics of housetraining, leash work, and simple commands, such as "sit". He rides easily and well in a car. This is not to say that Monty will not need continued guidance and training - he will - but we are proud of any dog who navigates so many changes with such sweet faith and acceptance as Monty has evidenced.

In Monty, you will meet more than the old cliche - a big dog in a little dog's body - you will meet a great dog who is big of heart, intelligent, and eager to please and learn. In a little dog's body. He will offer tremendous companionship, loyalty, and a profound bond to his committed adopter(s).
