More About Ruby

Ruby is a beautiful 7-8 month old girl. She is anyone's guess of breed, but we think possibly Spitz and Husky. She might have some Chow in her, but we just don't know for sure. This gorgeous girl was abandoned by her family. Ruby is spayed and current on vaccinations. She is mostly housetrained, and will be getting additional socialization and training in foster care. Right now, she is pretty timid, but we hope that she will bounce out of that quickly. We have learned that she should not go to a home with small children or a lot of chaos. She would do best in a calm home, possibly with an older couple who are pretty mellow, or with teenagers who aren't too rowdy or have a ton of friends over. She kind of likes a quiet, mellow home where she can be adored! She likes to go to the dog park and to go for walks, but needs a family who can handle a stronger personality. Her foster mom has this to say about her: "Ruby is definitely adoptable and not at all a mean or nasty animal, but she is very timid and shy, and she's easily overwhelmed when there's a lot of activity going on. She growled at a few folks on Saturday, and she was very scared at the vet yesterday and took a couple of threatening swipes at the vet - no contact, but a definite warning. We ended up muzzling her for safety, after which she was back to her old sweet self.

She is also very dominant. She's tried with my husband and I, and we put her in her place, but she repeatedly tries to mount both my dogs day after day. She's just being stubborn and it's her nature to be the head honcho, so no big deal. She should probably not go to a home with small children because she might try that and either hurt one by jumping up on them or snap at them if they try to push her a way or something.

I also think she needs to continue to be socialized with people and other dogs if she's going to maintain her good attitude - her response to new stimuli lead me to believe she could easily become very insecure if she's not exposed to different situations fairly regularly. I think she might do better in an adult home or a home with bigger kids as well as another dog - she seems to really enjoy playing with my dogs outside, but she hasn't quite gotten the hang of fetch and tug of war with people. ;-) "

The adoption fee for this puppy is $150.00.

If you are considering adopting this great pup, please first consider:

Do I have time for the pup and am I committed to keeping it for the 12-15 years we hope it lives?

Do I have the patience for a puppy? As wonderful as puppies are, they can be a real pain in the neck! They chew, mess in the house occasionally, and need lots of training!

Can I afford a dog? The cost is significant if they are given good quality food and the veterinary care that they need.

Will the puppy be an integral part of the family and will it fit in with other animals in the family? All family members should want the new puppy.

Can I keep the dog if my life situation changes? Moves, marriages, divorces, new babies are a common part of life, and the dog should not have to lose its home because of changes.

Most important, can I give the dog the love, attention, gentle training, exercise, and care that it will need for its lifetime?
