More About Hunter

Hunter is a very sweet 4 year old German Shepherd. He's a typical "backyard bred" Shepherd, so doesn't have the perfect breed standard look, but he's a handsome boy anyway! He has been mostly an outside dog his whole life, but as of 9/24/09, he is in a foster home. He is now completely housetrained, and is crate trained as well. He is good with kids, but should go to a home with older kids. He still has little bit of a nervous personality, and a calm environment would be the best for him, but he is getting better by the day! He can be territorial of spaces, like the garage, so it is best that he goes to a home that will let him be a part of the family all the time- in the house, greeting guests and getting attention! He has met his foster family's neighbors and just fawned over them and gave them all kinds of kisses. He's a very loyal and protective guy, and will love the family he is with immensely. He is great with other dogs, and would do best in a home with another calm dog. We would love for him to go to a home with his brother, Chase. The pair are very bonded, and seem to operate on one shared brain sometimes! He's not into toys at all, but his foster family hopes that he will learn to like them. So far, his favorite activity is snuggling on the couch, watchin' tv with his foster family!

Hunter is now current on his vaccinations and is neutered. This big guy is very gentle, likes kids, and likes other dogs. He is supposed to be okay with cats, but we will test that out further if possible. We will know more about him the longer we have him, and will update this site. Thanks for looking!

If you are considering adopting a dog, please first consider:

Do I have time for the dog and am I committed to keeping it for the many years we hope it lives?

Do I have the patience for a dog? Even adult dogs have a transition period while they learn to behave in their new homes.

Can I afford a dog? The cost is significant if they are given good quality food and the veterinary care that they need.

Will the dog be an integral part of the family and will it fit in with other animals in the family? All family members should want the new dog.

Can I keep the dog if my life situation changes? Moves, marriages, divorces, new babies are a common part of life, and the dog should not have to lose its home because of changes.

Most important, can I give the dog the love, attention, gentle training, exercise, and care that it will need for its lifetime?
