Can you believe it.....I have a wonderful home! I met this nice couple and they have two other little dogs. We all got to meet and now I have a forever home. They are going to continue my treatments and I'll be well and happy in my new home. Thank you for saving and loving me! I'm now getting the hair back on my face!!!

As tiimes get tough.....pets are becoming more disposable! Here's Cassie's note that was left on her kennel at the front door of our local shelter:

"This is Cassie (with a little smiley face drawn). She is a very sweet puppy! She is @ 6-8 yrs. old. We found her about 2 yrs ago and she make herself a part of our family."
"She has demodectic mange and we cannot afford to continue her treatment. We have been laid off from our job and we have 3 children. Her medicine that we have left are with her. We hate to part with her b/c she is a doll. Our family has loved her and we are sad we have to let her go."
"Please take care of our sweet baby girl."
"Thanks"

Cassie did NOT have to be dumped!! It would have been much easier for a rescue to step in and help the family KEEP their PET!!!! We would have provided medical assistance, food, whatever was needed within reason.

After a little over a week, Cassie finially began to eat and come out of her depression. Save 1 Pet did not have the heart to leave her at the shelter....all the barking dogs...all the new surroundings would have sent this little senior over the edge. Demodex Mange is brought on by stress! Image how stressful it is to loose your family and be dumped off at a shelter! We are grateful that Billy, ACO called us for help...Cassie is grateful too!

We took Cassie to the vet, did a skin scrape and she does have demodex mange (not contagious to humans or other animals). She wasn't getting enough medication so her dose is now higher so she can actually get well!!! She is also on antibiotics now to help her skin heal.

She will need at least 6 weeks of ivermectin to kill off those nasty mites. Since we don't know if she is spayed she will have to go through surgery to make sure she has been spayed. The procedure is like an exploratory....much more evasive and will take her longer to heal since the incision will have to be larger.

Too bad the family didn't leave more information about their sweet little baby girl!!!

Come and meet me at Petco in Collierville Saturday, Sept. 26th from 1-4 p.m. If you can't adopt another pet at this time, maybe you could bring me a new toy to play with.

Save 1 Pet is a 501 C 3 approved charity committed to helping homeless aniamls. We don't have a facility (shelter) but work out of our homes and foster the animals until they can find a forever home.

Please be advised that for all adoptions, we will conduct reference checks, including veterinary references. Our adoption fee for dogs is $95 which includes spay/neuter, heartworm check, current vaccines, worming and heartworm/flea/tick prevention.
For dog adoptions, we do conduct fence verifications.

When adopting an animal, you will be asked to complete our Adoption Contract.
