More About Bud

Meet Bud! When these pictures were taken on 8/20, he was about 14 weeks old. He is a Rat Terrier/Yorkie mix and is just adorable! Bud has had a rough start, but is now healthy and healed from his injuries and is ready for a new and better life! Bud was brought to the shelter after his owner accidentally fell on him and shattered his femur. His owner could not afford the surgery or amputation, and couldn't even afford to have him put to sleep (she thought that was her only option). She turned him over to P.A.W.S. and we went to work to help him. One of our local veterinarians did the complicated surgery to wire and pin his small femur back together and he went to a foster home that could keep a close eye on his recovery. The one picture shows him after the surgery and the others are what he looks like now (10/11). After about a month, we are thrilled to report that Bud has come through his surgeries with flying colors. The pins have been removed, but the wires will be there permanently (you can only see them by x-ray). Since he was so young, there should not be any future problems. You can hardly tell he's ever been hurt. He is running around like new and has no ill effects from his injury. You can see him in the video chasing after a butterfly and running around in joy.

He is an active puppy who is tons of fun. He is full of personality and will have you smiling. With everything he went through with his surgery, he can be a little shy with strangers (he'll start out barking at you). But once he warms up and trusts you, he becomes an affectionate and very loyal dog. He loves to cuddle and snuggle with you when he finishes playing and settles down. He adores getting belly rubs. He is almost house trained and does very well in his crate. He gets along well with other dogs. He does live with cats and may want to chase and play with them. He is a good watchdog as he will alert you to strangers approaching, but then he settles down once he knows they are okay. He has been released and deemed healed by the VET, and is now ready to go to a loving home. With all that Bud went through with his surgery and all the after care, fast actions and unexpected manners of kids can be intimidating to Bud and make him feel uncomfortable and nervous. This can result in him being reactive, so he will be happiest in a home without any young kids. Bud may need a little time to settle into a new home and bond with you, but once that happens, he is a total love and will be your devoted companion.

If you can't adopt Bud, would you please consider helping with his veterinary expenses? Small or large, your donation of any amount helps to make sure there are funds available to give pups like Bud a second chance...THANK YOU!!

Please note: This wonderful dog cannot go to his/her new home until the adoption application is completed and approved and the dog has been spayed/neutered. If you would like an application, please call the shelter since we do not have an electronic version
