Chow Chow [Mix]

Kiba was pulled from a high kill shelter where he was abandoned by his family. Kiba was severly emaciated and could hardly stand or walk. X-rays determined that he needed to have both rear patellas repaired, but he also had a diaphragmatic hernia which allowed his abdominal organs to migrate into his chest cavity. His condition was caused by blunt force trauma that was left untreated. He was in enormous pain. Due to his internal damage, Kiba was only breathing with 25% of his lungs and he was starving to death because his stomach had no room to expand. He could not live in this contion much longer, so we had to find a surgeon to attempt life saving surgery. That led us to UVS in Greenville who performed the surgery. Dr. Keith performed the 3 hour surgery. He said it was one of the worst he had seen. Kiba is in foster care in Charleston now and recovering.
