More About Beemer

Thank you for your interest in our dogs! All dogs are spayed or neutered, current on shots (DHPPC, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), microchipped, dewormed and have Frontline for fleas and ticks. Once you have read the biography below and if you are interested, please fill out an application on our website, www.dpsrescue.com and we will contact you within 48 hours.

Beemer is a 5-7 year old Standard Schnauzer possibly Lhasa mix. He is a love bug but is unsure of himself initially with new folks. He needs that gentle person who gets that he needs reassurance initially and then wants an 18lbs. lap dog. He's really this complete sweetheart who loves people and wants to be with them. He was clearly an outdoor dog before and now is a complete indoor dog who loves dog beds to cuddle up in and loves to cuddle on his foster mom's bed.

Beemer didn't know what a walk, leash or collar was when he first came in. Now, he knows that it means he gets to visit all the neighbors who have quickly become his friend because of their treats! Beemer has learned to love the car and 'going for a ride'. He is great with the indoor kitties who share his home. He couldn't care less about them. They all happily co-exist. He is a great option for a single person, couple or retired person who wants a loving, sweet dog but who also is willing to give him a chance to get use to things. He is scared of being picked up by strangers so it means you have to go slow in that department. Probably no kids b/c he is scared of everything new initially and most kids want to 'hug, squeeze and love 'em' when they first come home as would kids who are visiting.

Beemer has been diagnosed with arthritis. He is being treated with meds, joint supplements and specifically designed food to slow the progression but there is no 'cure' for it. It doesn't stop him from running, playing or giving a lot of love. We only discovered it when we pick him up at the middle and he 'bends' that it hurts him. So it's something that he clearly is not suffering from but we want to 'halt' it in its tracks as much as possible. Though obviously no guarantees can be made, we are confident with what his treatment is now, that we have the best chance of seeing him live the next 8-10 years and be happy and healthy.

Beemer is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
