More About Wiley
We think Wiley is probably a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix, but he could EASILY pass for a well-trained fox! He's a lean, long-legged 9-1/2 lb., rust-colored fella, and we were told that he's 6-7 years old. (He looks older than his age because he has white on his face that matches his white toes.) This is a guy who LOVES activity, and cheerfully meets every adventure head-on. Wiley is house trained, for the most part. (We have a female that went into heat before we could get her vetted, so the house manners of ALL the boys here are very challenged lately.) He is obedient, crate trained, gets along great with the other dogs here, has excellent social manners, is friendly with strangers (although sometimes he barks at others when he's on leash), gives gentle kisses, and is very alert and energetic. He learned his new name immediately, and stepped into our routine as though he had lived here for months. When he folds his graceful limbs under him on a cushy bed, he looks just like a beautiful fawn. He is a perfect companion on road trips, too, sitting obediently in his car seat or snatching a nap until we get to our destination. Occasionally he taps my leg lightly with his wet nose, just to say "Hi" as he walks by. Wiley also loves to snooze up on the back of the sofa, and at night he must be bundled under his blankie if he's not under the covers in the Big Bed. He waits patiently for his turn to get ready to go for our morning walks, is helpful when I put on his harness, and is barely warmed up by the end of our 1/2 mile jaunt. His friends here have taught him the joys of gecko-hunting, and although I have never known of him to catch one, he thoroughly enjoys the sport. If he's lucky enough to have a fenced yard, I'm sure he will be happy to spend a good deal of time enjoying the fresh air, sunbathing (watch out for sunburn!), and scouting for critters.
As is often the case, Wiley came to us as a result of heartbreaking circumstances. Wiley grew up in a home where he was truly loved. When he was hit by a car, though, his owner took him to the animal ER, but couldn't afford to have his broken leg set. So Wiley was left there, and thank goodness Animal Network stepped in to help this sweet and gentle little dog. His leg was repaired with a pin (which will be removed by the middle of Oct.). Animal Network asked UnderDog Rescue to find him a good home, and we are delighted to help this wonderful boy find the safe and happy home that he deserves. He was neutered previously, and has been wormed, heartworm tested negative, fully vaccinated, microchipped, given heartworm/flea preventatives, and a dental. His adoption donation is $200 to help recover some of his medical expenses, but years of cuddles and kisses are free. Although he has a wonderful temperament, we will be looking to find him an adult-only home because he is so fine-boned and has been injured once already. If there's a chance this lanky monkey could be the one to make your family complete, please fill out an application. Wiley is waiting for you!
All UnderDogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm checked, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and heartworm/flea/tick preventatives. For consideration for one or more dogs, we require that an on-line application is filled out. Go to www.UnderDog.Petfinder.com for our application. Sorry, we do not adopt outside of Florida. Applicants are subject to a home visit, and veterinary references will be checked. Please include a vet reference (including phone number) when applying online.
Our application process:
FIRST, an application must be approved for adoption from our rescue.
SECOND, we determine whether the dog that has been applied for is a "good match" for the household that wants to adopt him/her. We take into consideration the dog's activity level, compatibility with other members of the household (human and other pets), etc.
If your application has been approved, but the dog you applied for is no longer available, please take the time and look over our adoptable dogs again. We will make every effort to find the right dog for an approved applicant.
We hope you agree and understand that our goal to find the best forever home is our #1 priority!
Wiley is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.
