Australian Shepherd [Mix]

Emmie is an approximately 2 y.o. Australian shepherd mix. We met Emmie when she was surrendered to the Tipton County Animal shelter along with her mate, King, and the last of their pups, Possum.

They were all in the same small cell. The pup was only six weeks old and was a gorgeous red merle. We snagged her immediately as being the one in the most danger of exposure at a shelter. I asked the shelter staff to please work with me and not euthanize the parents until I could get more space available. I received an urgent call that several dogs were to be euthanized and Emmie and King could not wait any longer.

We have had Emmie spayed and she was heartworm negative. She is now fully vaccinated and been treated for hookworms. Emmie has a lovely,mild temperament and will hold still while you clean her ears even. She gets along fine with the foster dogs. She is quiet and not at all barky. She is about 90% housetrained.

We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
