More About Molly

Treeing Walker Coonhound (best guess); approx 3 years old; tri-color with snowy white, warm tan and inky black patches.

There is nothing sweeter than a country hound, and Molly is a simple country girl in the best of ways, one whose pretty face reflects her open and innocent personality. And it is her sweet and loving nature and heart-warming gratitude for the simple things in life that make Molly truly beautiful.

For Molly, meeting new people is an important event as seen in the way she eagerly and warmly greets everyone she meets, even the vet! Likewise, she is good with other dogs, and her open enthusiasm can coax even a reluctant canine companion into joining the play. She is warm and sweet and playful with people and dogs alike, and we think she’d be best in a home with children who weigh at least as much as she does, currently 50 lbs.

Molly greets each day with a long, long stretch. It’s a delight to see her stretch out those long legs and long back, first in a ‘play bow’ stretching her shoulders and front half, then pushing forward to stretch out her back legs and hips. It’s a beautiful doggy yoga, and she ends it with a funny full body shake. With that, she’s ready for whatever the world has to show her. Molly wants very much to make her humans happy, and has learned practically perfect manners in order to get treats and dinner. When she expects her meals, she’ll wait patiently in her crate, and then eat up every last crumb gladly.

Molly has assumed the role of protector of the back yard, and will alert her adopter to the presence of any creature that should dare to enter. She will often issue a clarion call, a lovely long howl-ish-bark to make her humans aware of the invasion, but the alarm can be quelled by a command or administration of a treat. She will gracefully come loping across the yard to sit nicely for the treat, or come inside when called.

She is completely house-broken and crate trained and has impeccable house manners. She (almost always) sits without a command to exit her crate or when her leash appears (although her tail wags SO happily that it’s hard for her to sit still -- truly a case of the tail wagging the dog).

Molly suffers from airborne and perhaps wheat allergies, which used to manifest themselves in skin irritation. Since coming into rescue, however, Molly’s existing skin issues have been beautifully overcome, and she has had a complete evaluation and diagnosis by a prominent veterinary dermatologist/allergist. Molly's allergies will need to be monitored, and her diet is easy to manage with good quality food. She requires a shot every three weeks, but it’s an extremely easy process that Molly sits through without complaint. Good food and a shot every three weeks, and she’s in perfect shape.

Molly is so very good hearted -- her frank admiration of her humans and her boundless joy at life's everyday gifts would make even the most cynical and cranky of us rethink our world view. We believe that her adopter will benefit profoundly from the lessons this simple dog can teach in perspective and optimism.
