More About Shasta

Shasta is small, 35 lb. spunky little pit mix who had a rough start in life. UnderDog volunteers found her living with another dog in the woods behind a shopping center. She was so thin and hungry it was easy to coax her into the car with some chicken in hand. (The other dog was Poke and we eventually captured her and she is in foster care.

Shasta rode nicely in the car on the way to Doc's, where she was spayed and treated for heartworms. Doc believes she is only 1 year old, and has probably had a litter of puppies. During the last few weeks, she has been eating frequent meals of a premium dog food and is now at a healthy weight for her frame.

Shasta is full grown and won't get any taller. Her cuts and scrapes from living in the wild have healed up nicely, and her coat has regained it's natural sheen. She has also learned house-training and how to walk on a leash. She is crate-trained, and after a busy day she sleeps quietly at night. This shy and timid pup has blossomed into a happy, playful dog!

Shasta’s personality is very submissive; she isn't at all bossy or alpha. There isn't a mean bone in her body and I haven't heard her growl at anything.

She is friendly to other dogs and cats and has no issues that we can see. She is discovering a world of playing with toys and fetching her ball. Shasta is still in the rambunctious puppy stage, and requires chew bones and a well-stocked toy box to keep her active mind occupied. Of all our UnderDogs, I believe she is the sweetest one in the bunch!

All UnderDogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm checked, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and heartworm/flea/tick preventatives. For consideration for one or more dogs, we require that an on-line application is filled out. Go to www.UnderDog.Petfinder.com for our application. Sorry, we do not adopt outside of Florida. Applicants are subject to a home visit, and veterinary references will be checked. Please include a vet reference (including phone number) when applying online.

Our application process:

FIRST, an application must be approved for adoption from our rescue.

SECOND, we determine whether the dog that has been applied for is a "good match" for the household that wants to adopt him/her. We take into consideration the dog's activity level, compatibility with other members of the household (human and other pets), etc.

If your application has been approved, but the dog you applied for is no longer available, please take the time and look over our adoptable dogs again. We will make every effort to find the right dog for an approved applicant.

We hope you agree and understand that our goal to find the best forever home is our #1 priority!

Shasta is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.
