Schnauzer

Hans is a wonderful 20 lb Schnauzer.  He is 7 yrs old and has the fabulous temperament for which Schnauzers became famous.  Unbelievably, Hans was rescued on the side of the highway in Oklahoma.  He was a filthy, matted mess and was bathed and clipped as soon as he arrived. Hans has a wonderful personality, and is very well-mannered.  This is a marvelous dog.   His teeth were a mess due to neglect, and 9 had to be pulled  Hans is now neutered, had a full dental, heartworm, erlichia, lyme tested negative, wormed, and vaccinated. 
Because my now former vet charged $408 for Han's dental, HW + and rabies vac, his adoption fee is $400.  I will gladly provide the adopter with a copy of the vet bill.  Please understand that I am losing money at that adoption fee, and drove 120 miles just to get Hans vetted.   If you have an issue with the amount, I will be happy to provide the vet's phone number, and you can vet your frustration on her :-)  Rescues like mine pay to help the dogs that we did not bring into the world, and some vets are profitting mightily from our compassion.  Sadly,  I will not be able to take in anymore dogs that need dentals because of outrageous prices being charged.  Rescues in the Denver area have access to much more affordable vet care (many pay less than $100 for dentals and neuters combined), and can charge lower adoption fees.  I cannot compete with those prices, as vets in my remote area are few and far between.  Again, my apologies, but I cannot take on anymore debt.

Please understand that I am a self-funded rescue, and not a 'corporate giant' :-)  While it would be great if I could continue operating at a loss and taking on even more debt--I can't.  At this point, when rescues and shelters are closing for lack of funding, the only way to keep operating is either through adoption fees or hopefully a soon-to-be generous donor.
