More About Eva
ADOPTED 7/8/09: Eva went to her wonderful new family. We had a bit of a hitch in Eva's going home. We thought she had been heartworm tested in Alabama... turns out it wasn't done, and when we did it, she was heartworm positive. So, Eva underwent her heartworm treatment with us before going to her new home. Luckily for Eva, her great new family was ready for the extra task of dealing with a heartworm positive doggy. They are going to give her some TLC and spoiling this month while she is undergoing her heartworm treatment. Yeah for Miss Eva!
UPDATE 6/28/09: Eva's puppies are all going home (the last one goes home tomorrow). Please consider adopting Eva, who has been such a great mommy.
FYI: All dogs are located in Williamston, MI (which is near Lansing, MI) unless stated otherwise at the top of their petfinder listing. We get dogs from all over the country, so we like to list where they came from as their hometown.
NOTE: Eva and her puppies are in foster care in Alabama.
Name: Eva
Breed: English Pointer
Size: 50 lbs
Color: Black and White
Age: 2 years
Hometown: Clanton, AL
Date arrived at Pointers From Oz: Eva went into temporary foster care 4/14/09. She had her puppies on 4/20/09. Eva arrived in Michigan on 6/20/09.
More pictures: To see all of the pictures we have of Eva, please click on the Pointers From Oz link on this page. Eva is listed as both a Pointer and an English Pointer with some different pictures on each listing. The puppies now have their own pages too!!!
Her story: Eva was a stray that arrived at the shelter very pregnant. We have gotten 19 Pointers from this shelter (including Dixie and her 17 babies from her last two litters). Luckily, Eva was rescued by a local person who contacted us for help with her and her puppies. Eva had 9 puppies (lucky for them, they were born in their foster home). They are all different colors, but they are all purebred pointers. Liver and White boy - Aries Liver and White boy - Rigel Black and White girl - Arista Black and White boy - Orion Lemon and White girl - Vega Lemon and White boy - Oberon Lemon and White girl - Lyra Liver and White girl - Riannon Lemon and White (nearly all white) girl - Selene
Her personality: Eva is a little shy when you first meet her, but she warms up quickly. Pointers are an easy going breed. They love to play as much as they love being a couch potato. Eva gives great hugs and is a total sweetie. She would do best with gentle, patient owners in a laid-back home.
UPDATE FROM FOSTER HOME 6/10/09:
Eva is doing well in the house, she has been inside a good bit.... but is eager to go back to the pups. No potty accidents and likes stuffed toys. She is doing well on crate training. She still sits up in there and looks a little anxious (probably wanting to go back to her babies), but she doesn't whine or scratch to get out or anything. She loves kids.
UPDATE FROM EVA'S FOSTER MOM 5/21/09:
Eva is very sweet with a soft personality! She is submissive with people at first.... we can already tell a difference in her confidence since she has been here.... at first she always took a submissive posture when someone approached her... (rolling over on her back). Now she comes up to us, head up, tail wagging. She loves hugs and lots of touching. Just recently she has started doing zoomies around the outside of the house.... a couple of times around and then back to being "mom". Cats are no problem. She gets along well with my dogs, I have never heard her growl, she is not a whiner and she rarely barks... maybe 4-5 times she has been here. REALLY!!
She would be best kept away from birds, chicken, ducks. We have all of the above... she is not fixated on them, but once a chicken was in her pen and she caught him.... I was there so he was rescued and fine... shouldn't have been in her pen anyway :)
Other dogs: Eva is great with other dogs.
Cats: Eva is good with cats.
Kids: Eva would be a wonderful choice if you have older (over age 5) gentle kids.
Housetraining: Eva is doing well on housetraining and crate training in her foster home.
Fencing Needs: Eva would do well with a standard or invisible fence. She would also do fine with a home with leash walks only.
Hunting Potential: Eva might make a fun hunting buddy with the right training and guidance. She is a gentle girl, so would need a gentle owner. Remember, our first priority is to find our foster dogs wonderful homes. Birddogs could care less if they go hunting or not, they just want plenty of outdoor time and families that love them. The vast majority of the dogs we adopt go to pet homes, where they are happy to chase and point bug, butterflies, and songbirds. Only about 1% go to hunting homes (where they are still spoiled family members).
Vet Stuff: Eva is up to date on vaccines. She was spayed on 5/29/09. She tested heartworm positive and underwent heartworm treatment with us on 7/6 and 7/7/09.
Adoption Fee: Please click on the Pointers From Oz link on the right of this page for information about our adoption fees.
